Saw one fly at the NAS Pensacola Airshow last week definitly not the sexiest bird.

Yeah but we have planes that are far uglier.

Oh no doubt but she does look pretty bulky mid-air.

Top speed 295? Throw in dive speed with great dive brakes I bet this pic can engage at over 400 mph with little problem. I would bet that once its dropped ords and is light with those 20mms I bet this bird will give a better accounting then Cobra in his A-20. I bet it turns better then the Dora at low speeds, maybe even outturns the 51. I think history notes that the Dauntless was effective but pretty risky. This bird far more able to handle itself. By the end of the war the latewar F4U-hogs could carry as much firepower and the jabo came to the Pacific.

In any case, I think at some point this bird is added.

No.  Not until the 26 other more important aircraft get added first.

I'd love to see it added but I'd like to see the D4Y and B6N added first.

No, the deck isn't stacked against the Japanese in late war setups enough yet.

Years ago I met a vet who flews these during WW2. He proudly claimed to have drobbed a bomb on a Japanese carrier. I have no reason to doubt him. I can't remember if it was the Marianas Turkey Shoot or right after Leyte. In any case, the biggest take away was how they referred to the SB2C Helldiver. They called it the Son-a-B****, 2nd Class. what a hoot!

Anyway, +1

Boo
Nice for him, I've always wanted to meet a WWII bomber pilot. I've met figther pilots, P-51s, P-47s, P-40s. Some pilots who flew a P-51 and P-47 and swore the P-47 was the best.

How ever I can understand why I've never met so many.

On the Helldiver?  It was the planes regular wing mounted gun package.  If you're gonna just post to pad your post count, at least make your posts accurate.
