PC Not turning on.

Today the power went out briefly, and now my computer will not start. When I try turning it on, it beeps once for a couple seconds then twice quickly. Advice? Where do I look.

both sites you posted had the same code.
My MB/BIOS is asus. The PC stays on, and may actually be running but nothing shows on the monitor. I have tried taking out the video card and RAM, putting them back in. Not sure what else to try, without buying a new video card.

Does your mother board have on board video? if it does connect your monitor to it, pull the video card out and reboot. If it boots you know it was the video card, if it doesn't it could be your mother board

No on board video card. I had a spare video card but can't seem to find it. Starting to think it got tossed during my recent move.

Is it possible that you can get another video card and try before you buy one. Just thinking in case its your MB.
Do you know what bios you have. You could go to thier site and lookup beep code.
I did a little looking, with asus award bios, one forum had the problem as video.( this is from a 939 AMD board and also is the forum correct?)

Do you have intergrated video? You could try to clear the CMOS and default the bios and try the intergrated video if you have that option.

A computer tech once told me that voltage short or spike will usually harm the motherboard before your hardware attached to the motherboard. You did say the power went out, just guessing.

If I was running out of options , I think I would clear the cmos anyway and try as last resort.

if your PSU  has both an 8 pin 12v  plug and a 4 pin 12volt plug, try swapping them out......

sometimes when the small 12v plug is not plugged in or does not have power going to it, it will look like everything is powering up on the PC except for the video/monitor will show with the yellow light ( standby mode light )

if your PSU lost its 12V  function, then it might be the PSU instead of the Video Card

although, you said you heard the 1 long beep and 2 short beeps

edit:  you can only try this swapping of plugs if you have the 8 pin plug in use originally...... if so, you can swap to the 4 pin 12v plug to see if the PC will power up the screen......... sorry forgot to mention this..... ( or some PSU's 8 pin plug comes in 2 pieces that will hook/unhook together! if your PSU is as such then there is no reason to try this possible troubleshooting solution )

I don't think so... I've had a few LCD monitors go bad and most of them suffered a backlight failure. Unfortunately, they don't force the computer to beep a code for that problem.

edit: However, I would try something cheaper first, like swapping out the wire to see if that corrects the problem.

Google something like "ASUS motherboard [insert model number here] beep codes" to find out what that code means.

It was the video card. Got a new one, and an excuse to get myself a new monitor as well. Thanks for the help!
