Just to throw some gas on the fire, I'd like to know what circumstances required the arrival of the package next day, and why having it arrive one day later than agreed upon made a big enough difference for all of this to be the result. If it was that you were building something for somebody else, and the timeline was extremely tight etc, it would explain a great deal. An explanation of this key pivotal point would clarify this weekends best bbs drama so far.
The way UPS/Postal/FedEx operate nowadays, I would personally be ecstatic just RECEIVING the package during the same week it was sent, never mind a day late. That said, if I had an extremely time sensitive issue and somebody told me they were sending something next day air, and they sent it ground, depending on the situation, I might get PO'd as well.
