Thanks for the tip, but I think the nearest installation to me is in Missouri. Maybe Ohio or the Dakotas, not sure.

We used to have K.I. Sawyer right up the road. Unfortunately budget cuts forced it's closure and now it is a crime ridden cesspool. I sure do miss those B-52's flying fast and low over the tree tops. They made quite an impression.

Honestly, "Given Up For Dead" by Bill Sloan was more powerful to read, than Flags Of Our Fathers, which was powerful as well.

"Poles Apart" by George F. Cholewczynski   



A hard book to find and can be expensive.  Very much worth reading.  The author now lives in NJ.  Talked with him via e-mail.  A very intelligent man.

Hellcat: the F6F in World War II (1979) by Barrett Tillman.

This is a fantastic book about probably THE most important fighter on the Allied side during WW2.  Superb illustrations/pictures and some fantastic interviews as well.  Tillman has written a number of great aviation books, but this was by far my favorite non fiction work he has done.

Sloan has another great book called "Brotherhood of Heros" about the Marines on Pelileu well worth reading too.

Just finished "The Wolves Are At The Door" ... amazing book about a one legged, female, American operative for the British SOE, and later the American OSS, in France during WWII.
 Well worth the read for history buffs.

King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table - Roger Lancely (a more modern adaptation of Sir Thomas Mallory's book)
The Long Gray Line - Rick Atkinson (the story of the West Point Class of 1966 through school, Vietnam and after)

I always made my interns, staff and students read The Communist Manifesto. Eye opening for the unititiated. As a follow up The Road to Serfdom by FA Hayek. Set during WWII England. More true today then ever. Lead to a Nobel Prize in Economics.
