The newest toy in the gun cabinet

So, there's a brand new indoor pistol range just baout 15 minutes from my house now.  Just opened in October.  I bought a year membership for $300 that allows me to use the range as often as I want.  Anyway, I've been hitting the range once or twice every week.  Loving having a nice place to shoot so close to home.

Lately I have been shooting the Smith and Wesson 22A that I got for a song, featured in another thread.  Costs next to nothing to put a couple hundred rounds down range every week.  Occaisionally I put a box through one of my defense weapons, just to stay comfortable with the feel of something more powerful.

About a month ago, the range announced a shooting league they are going to start up in January.  Well, I signed up for the rimfire unlimited class, I can use my S&W 22A with its scope for that.  Also signed up for the rimfire iron site class, but the only gun I had for that class was my Sig Mosquito.  It isn't very accurate at distance.

So, I bought this.  It's a Ruger 22/45.  Very accurate.  Cost me less then $300 new.  And the bonus, and the reason I bought it, it is designed with the grip angles to be the same as a 1911 style gun.  The safety and slide release are in the same place as the 1911 also.  So it's a good inexpensive substitute for training also.  It won't replace trigger time with one of my 45s, but having the same layout in a cheaper to shoot format has value.



I added the Hogue palm swell grips, they are the same as what I have on my 1911A1, and I like them.

Looks like a sweet little pistol. I've been eyeballing a 1911 .45 for some time now. Would really, really like to have one. I bought this Mossberg 835 for my boy the other day. Kind of wish I got it for myself    He wants to try his hand at turkey huntin' with me this spring...i doubt if he can sit still long enough, but we'll see I reckon  



that's not the actual gun. his doesn't have a sling on it yet. Just pulled the pic off Google. This model has really nice fiberoptic sights that I just love. Certainly a big improvement from my first Mossberg my dad gave me. I use a Mossberg 500 with scope now, and my boy's new "toy" is already per drilled for scope mounts if he decides to go that route in the future.

Very nice Pfactor, we sell alot of them at the gunshop, in 10yrs never saw one come back for any mechanial failures. Breaking them down and cleaning them can be a challenge for the first couple of times. My boy wants one for Xmas (a 22 pistol) and that model you have was the one i was thinking of getting.

Ive been really into shooting .22's lately, my newest addition to the gunsafe, just purchased 2 weeks ago (and yes, i know i need to get the leaves raked, been spending to much time shooting lately  )


GSG 5sd  (22cal version of the MP5) Its an absolute blast to shoot.


 


Nice thing is all the MP5 goodies fit this thing. I have about 250.00 worth of accessories on the way, will post when its done

  Certainly a big improvement from my first Mossberg my dad gave me. I use a Mossberg 500 with scope now, and my boy's new "toy" is already per drilled for scope mounts if he decides to go that route in the future.

I still have the one my dad gave to me when i was 12yrs old (28yrs ago) and its still one of my favorites in the gunsafe. Not pretty, a gun that has been used hard for 28yrs but it still functions flawlessly

The MP5 replica reminded me that once upon a time a friend of mine had a conversion kit for this Ruger 10/22 that made it look like an MG42.  To add to the fun he had bought one of those little cranks to put on the trigger guard so that the rate of fire was 30 rounds in 2 seconds or so.  It was a lot of fun to tinker with.  

Nice addition to the gun safe, btw.  Nice pistols, I'd consider getting one but the Buckmark wouldn't like sharing shelf room with it.

That's the truth.  I had to actually get the manual out to follow the step by step the first couple of times.

IMO the only downside to a Ruger 22 pistol is the reassembly after cleaning. There is a technique to it and once you learn how to do it properly it becomes much easier. I prefer the older Mk2 version rather than the 22/45 version. The one I had was far more accurate than I was even with the stock heavy trigger. The closest thing to having a regular 22 rifle in a much shorter format.

Plinking with .22s is great fun and cheap enough to do it all day... I like Rugers, having owned a few.
