A Warning for any Athletes
« on: November 26, 2011, 02:15:55 PM »
I have what the doctors call a tibial tuberosity avulsion. Essentially my tibial tuberosity (the tendon running from your knee cap to your shin bone) was stronger then my tibia and it tore yes tore a chunk of bone from the tibia. This happened during a district soccer match where i was carried off the field and sent to the ER. I am now facing a minimal 2 month recovery plus therapy. If i bend my knee to much or do anything to make it worse I will be in a hard cast with a possibility of surgery. Making it more like a 6 month recovery. Currently im in an immobilizing soft cast and crutches. I havent left the couch for 3 days now. :cry But percoset and motrin are my best friends. So for any athletes out there don't do this it sucks.  :aok

sucks man, sorry to hear that.

watch the two parts of this documentary and see if the idea of micro fracturing and rebuilding for strength appeals to you.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bazoelZliSg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KjZegbUxZo   -  part 2 is the bit you need to check out
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

The thing is though that this will probably never happen again because it occurs only at young ages (mainly 14-16). Thats because the bone isnt at its full strength. If this was to happen again the tendon would snap instead of the bone giving.

I have a certain condition with my knees from playing football so much. Forget the name, some long german one. osh-gar-slaughter is kinda what its pronounce. Basically the inside of my knee swells up at times. Making it hard to keep my leg straight. And it tends to give sharp pains at times.

Does come with a benefit tho, Whenever the weather is going to get bad my knee tends to start giving me an annoying pain sensation. Pretty much my knee is a built-in weather predictor  :D

just be happy that you werent like my friend in 5th grade when he tripped and his braces snapped and totally screwed up his mouth. broken jaw, shattered teeth, lacerated gums that needed to be stitched back togethor and then had to get a few of the braces out of his lip, and yes they went through the lip.

my god was that a mess.

Yeah went I went to see the surgeon they asked if I had that because if I did it would mean definite surgery to fix the problem. Even now though if it doesnt start healing itself I will need a cast and if that doesnt work then I get 2 little screws put in my knee. :uhoh

One good thing out of this is that I know my growth plates are wide open. The doc predicted I'll hit 6'2".
