I don't know of any "famous" or even "Interesting" people in my family line, least not in most people's eyes. Never met him, but my Grandfather (mother's side) is the reason for my fascination with WWII history/aviation. I'm told he genuinely loved flying and telling stories from the War, would have loved to hear some of those.
Survived Pearl and the war but his last flight was a rough one, Aug 13 1945: "Took off from USS San Jacinto on a mission over Tokyo area. Damaged by fighters from the 302nd Kōkūtai, this Hellcat (78006) ditched in Tokyo Bay near Kisarazu. Rescued by OA-10 44-34080, but after take off was shot down by eight Zeros from the 302nd Kōkūtai."
