.squelch 1 works for me. Hec,k I don't get saluted anyway so I don't miss a thing.  :)
Be nice to have an option .squelch 1 vdallas  and have that only turn off salutes to him.

Pay less attention to the text buffer and more attention to your surroundings and ya wont die as much
