disappearing dar bar
« on: November 29, 2011, 10:43:05 AM »
This has happened on several maps recently.  Don't recall the last map but this one was SMPizza, specifically grid 13,7.  There was a dar bar in the grid north of 13,7, so I upped a 163 to intercept.  The strats were flashing and the darbar never appeared in 13,7.  I dropped to the deck, only to find high Lancasters pounding the strats with no dar bar showing on the map.:headscratch:
Could be the strat icon is hiding the dar bar but either way, this should be addressed.

I believe someone driving off map while below dar altitude.......then flying back onto map can induce the dar bar and dot dar to behave improperly.

Maybe that scenario is possible but this was just a set of 20k buffs that were on the map the whole time.  I was in the tower, following the darbar travel southward (while enjoying an Old Fashioned - or two   ;)) and poof it was gone when he crossed into the strat sector.  I took off as soon as the strat began to flash and when the darbar disappeared, assumed he was noe.  Nope, he was up high and no dar bar at all.  :headscratch:

How far away from a friendly base with radar were the strats/sector? I believe the darbar (sector counters) work if within a specified range from an active radar, just like the dotdar shows up within a specified range and base warnings for planes (usually matches the radar ring).

This is not how the system is designed. Usually Ii can see enemy darbars waaaaaaaay behind the frontlines. That's how I used to hunt down bombers. Or simply just check the common fronts of the two enemy countries at peak time - you will see the darbars.

Hi all!

Screenshot from LWMA, yesterday, 30/11, 19:36 GMT:

2 enemy dots in sector 8,13 and no enemy dar bar.

If we had no radar at P 241 and C242 it would have been very hard to find them.

So I guess this arena setting doesn't do what I thought it does:

SectorCounterRange  63360  Range from the radar tower

Intel i7 5820k, Win7 64-bit

That still doesn't indicate a bug.  Those planes could be flying at 100 feet and show dot dar but not bar dar.

I've been noticing similar problems with dar.  The other day, I had 6 contacts over 15,000 feet near me, only 1 contact was showing up on radar with a dot, he kept disappearing and reappearing from Radar [EDIT:] well within the dar circle, and none of the other contacts were on dar.  They were all a good 5-8K inside the dar ring, over 15,000 feet in altitude, and we had friendly dots and dar functioning, so our HQ wasn't down at the time...

I've seen the same issue several times. All the sudden multiple high bandits in the middle of the sector with no dar bar.

Those dang aircraft watch folks are sleeping I tell ya.

So I guess this arena setting doesn't do what I thought it does:

SectorCounterRange  63360  Range from the radar tower

Your first assumption was correct.

SectorCounterRange, as measured from a field...and it is not the tower that defines the center of the range. It is the insertion point of the field. To see where the insertion point of a field is, open your mission editor, turn on icons and zoom down to the field....The icon will remain at the same scale and locate the insertion point.

This is the coordinate that locates the base in the formation of a terrain...the same coordinate found in the oba file prior to compiling

Destroying the radar (ie active vs inactive) has no bearing whatsoever on sector counters

Had the same thing happen recently...

I was headed into an darbarless sector at about 10K and in the middle of the sector I was bounced by 2 high 51's.  As soon as they appeared, so did the darbar...  Freaking cloaking devices....
