some things are just beyond explanation
« on: November 30, 2011, 10:36:05 PM »

i close up shop at 530pm. if i'm there past then, i'm either working on something of my own, or cleaning up.

tonight i was welding a bracket together for an adaptor i made to allow me to use my car pusher as a trailer mover.

so around 715, this lady walks in. i had the office door locked, and the lights out up there, with a "closed" sign displayed. one would think it'd be pretty obvious. she came in through the bay door i had left open for ventilation.
anyway, she was looking for directions. pretty simple. she was from new york, and on her way back there from philly. she needed to be on rt73. she missed the turn off for it, and ended up in my shop.
so.....she asks me how to get to the nj turnpike, and then breaks out a map, wanting me to show her where she is on the map. i tell her to put the map away, and listen.(nicely of course)
i tell her to make a left out of the parking lot, and follow that road for 5 miles. she'll see the sign for rt73. take rt73 south, and it'll take you right to the turnpike.
she gets her dam map out again. can you show me where we're at on here? no. i can't even see the dam thing. listen, i tell her. it's very simple(not quite so nice this time, although very polite still). it's only ONE turn. but now, her husbands in there too, contradicting everything i said.
i told them both one more time. it is VERY SIMPLE. turn left out of the driveway, follow THIS road for FIVE miles, and you will see rt73. taks it south, and you will see the turnpike.
now the crazy flake starts pointing the other way, saying this way? NO!! go LEFT(note i actually punched the keyboard typing left just then) as i point left the way i had previously done.
now the crazy person who should not possess a drivers lisence is pointing up kresson rd. this way? she says? it was at this point i told her i had closed an hour and a half ago, and that i would repeat one more time, then i had to finish my welding.
she sounded like she got it, but i then spent 20 minutes finishing up my welding, put the mig away, swept the floor, primed over the hot welds, and they were both still out in the lot trying to read that dam map.

i gotta wonder........does new york hand out drivers lisences to anyone with a pulse? i mean......how could she(or her husband for that matter) even figure out how to start the dam car, if they can't understand "left, drive five miles, and you'll see the sign"?

Yes they do, I know a lot of idiots there who should not be driving (used to live there).

More revenue to the state for every car on the road, the DMV charges for every little thing, it's not in the state's best interest to limit their customer base. Not even to mention fine and ticket revenue.

I would have nodded, smiled, said "Yep, you've got it", closed the bay door and continued what I was doing.  Either that or sent them into the heart of Camden :t

From the sound of it they would've ended up in Camden, Arkansas. And are you telling me a New Yorker is still using a paper road map while this country boy is googling up directions on a smartphone???  :rofl

This morning a truck with two loads on it reversed into our roller shutters doors :old:

He was Italian and could not speak a word of English, he then asked me for directions as he was lost, I had the same conversation as above :old:

I could not be bothered about shutter doors and went in fir a coffee :old:

They are a protected species (stupid people) so all they have to do is procreate and make more stupid people.

I liked it better when we could let mother nature cull the herd.

The worst thing is for someone to ask for help,
then they either won't shutup to listen or contradict the advice.
I say since you seem to know everything, why ask me for help.

What I see is they asked you where they were on the map and told you where they were trying to get to...

...and you ignored half of the question and told them where to go.

Frankly, if i'm lost and asking for directions the first thing I'd like to know is where I am on the map just in case I get lost again trying to follow a stranger's directions (driving in unfamiliar place 'n all).

They knew where they were on the map to start with and that didn't help them.........

Personally I don't have to help anyone do anything. I help because that is how I am. If a person does not want my help or wants to make some kind of rules and regulations on how I help...... they are flat out of luck.

The person asking for help in this case has probably never been away from home.

this is my viewpoint. beside that, again...where they were on the map was, and is totally irrelevent. it was a case of directions with 20ft of driving to turn left out of the driveway, then 5 miles straight run to rt73, then turn right. then another straight run for less than 2 miles to see the turnpike. if one needs a map for directions with only 2 turns, then that one needs to be somewhere besides on the highways.

i try my best to help people.....but when they can't follow simple directions.........
