Aces High SpitXIV is a XIVPR ??
« on: December 02, 2011, 02:33:48 PM »
After all of these years I've just looked at the Spit14 offline in F3 mode. Were all Spit14 delivered with side view cameras? I thought the first deliverys were tactical only. Or does this mean we have a chance at the FR.MK XIVE tactical reconnaissance?

What I noticed offline:

It's simply a fighter. What you're looking at is a custom SKIN depicting a fighter recon variant.

P.S. Here's the default:

Yeah it's just a skin that someone made.

Those were done by Jocko they are armed PR aircraft. I recently gave Greebo a photo of a RAAF spit IX armed PR plane.

That skin if of a Spitfire FR.Mk XIV.  There was no such thing as a Spitfire PR.Mk XIV.

F = Fighter
LF = Low Fighter
HF = High Fighter
PR = Photo Reconnaissance
FR = Fighter Reconnaissance

Just F spec.  There was no Spitfire HF.Mk XIV.

Spitfire F.Mk XIV
Spitfire F.Mk XIVe
Spitfire FR.Mk XIV

The FR version would have "e" wings with the two 20mm and two .50 cal loadout.

I'm not sure if that's a rhetorical answer to the original post or a real question, so I'll just answer:

Yes, as long as it was armed recon. No unarmed recon is allowed except in the case of the mossie16 I think, which has no forward guns anyways.

FR are different then PR.  FR basically is a standard fighter version adapted with a camera.  Most low back XIVs were delivered as FRXIVs.    The PR19 was basically the Photo Recon version of the XIV being unarmed and carrying more fuel.  The PRXI was the Photo Recce version of the IX, again with no guns, more fuel etc.

We have a few skins that are of FR Spits.  The Pink Spit IX is a FRIX.  There is a pink Mk I that's a gunned FR I essentially.

I'm not sure if we have  any skinned but the P51B/C and D/K were also modified to carry cameras and redesignated F6.  Again a fighter version with cameras.  The P38 on the other hand was an unarmed version so it wouldn't work to skin those on a gunned 38.

Just frank question.  Thought PR skins were not allowed -didn't know or remember the pink spit was a recce bird.

Always find it amusing in scenarios when it involves dessert battles the pink skin shows up on Spitfires.

The assumption being that is was a dessert paint scheme.

PR skins are not, other than the Mosquito Mk XVI as it is unarmed in all cases.

FR skins are allowed though, because they are armed.

For whatever reason the 'pink' paint job was used for low level FR birds.  the high alt, unarmed ones usually went in PRU Blue.

The Pink Spits were armed fighter Spits adapted with an oblique camera.  16 Squadron FRIXs September 44
