Aces High opens to White Screen of death
« on: December 04, 2011, 08:36:45 AM »
New Computer put together........Windows 7 Pro 64bit installed and drivers, updates updated.  Installed Aces High last night on the new computer, then flash drive from the laptop and copy AH then put flash drive in new comp and copy and replace settings ect.  I performed a new install 4 times last night.  Same on all

You open Aces High and it never pulls up the main screen, just stays white in color with the baby blue border around it and aces high icon and name in the top left.

This morning I deleted everything associated with Aces High off the new comp and emptied the recycle bin.  I done new install from AH home page, run, installed, and still just getting a white screen.  Don't know what specs you need just let me know, I'm using a 120gb SSD 87 free GB.

Thanks for the help

Is AH on your SSD?? because if it is, there is your problem. You need to transfer your AH program to a regular HD and use your ssd as a boot drive only for your system. AH takes alot of resourses and the ssd does not have enough space on it to run AH.

I have Aces high installed on all 3(4) of my Crucial M4 128 Gb SSD's  and have not had any issues of running out of space ( just do not do a lot of AH filming or keep and eye on your films, or route them to be saved to your regular HD )

the white screen sounds like an issue with either using your backed up settings , or possibly an issue with the video8.cfg file, or maybe even cache

I recommend you delete your video8.cfg file and let them game create a new one when you go to start up the game ( especially if you have copy & pasted this file from your old computer/backed up settings )

Also, going by the other thread where you posted what your PC components order was.......... you may need to verify that you have Aces high selected to use your 6870 videocard. you need to make sure that the gpu built in to your Intel i5-2500k is not the video being used....

hope this helps

ok so I installed in the the WD500GB and same thing white screen.  Whats odd is the computer:E:(WD500GB) is showing 465gb free of 465gb free but the AH folders are inside.  I'll play with the video card to see I can make sure it's set up to play Aces High, I agree with you TC I'll try deleting that file.  BTW I've got a white screen with a blank install from HT.com and my computer was completely deleted with everything from aces high(no back up settings ect)

I understand you think that it is all completely deleted or uninstalled....... but once you have installed Aces high on to your Hard Drive / Os

their might be left over traces in the registery or maybe in the  C:\windows\  folder.... ( maybe even other places as well like the user settings or app data folders .... not saying they are there just saying their is a possibility of left over traces in certian areas )

hope this helps

also, I myself will turn off the UAC immediately upon installing Windows 7

out of 20 or more windows 7 installs I have had less trouble doing this than leaving it running in any set capacity

and always make sure you are running your Aces high ( or any app / program ) as  "Run as administrator"  ( can check this by right clicking the Icon on the desktop and there will be a yellow/blue shield beside it on the left, showing that the app/game in question is set to run as admin )

edit: also you do not want to be using the hybernation mode or using the sleep mode settings  if you are using Windows 7 64 bit OS

ok I checked to see if my video card is running Aces High instead of the onboard video chip as you mentioned and that might be the problem I get this

(Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

My onboard video chip says (This device is working properly.)

So....what now I tried to install the newest drivers and it said the newest drivers were installed

And...now I'm googling

TnDep,

did you or have you installed any utilitys or MBaccessory software

you want to look for "Lucid Virtu Switchable Graphics"

this is what lets you select which video to use for which game or software

I do not know how you set up your computer so this is about as far I can go by just going back and forth through the text fourms here

TD  may be able to help you better via phone...... or check your PM's for my #

I know it's recommended to turn off UAC and superfetch, but how and where do you find these things to do that in Win7?

UAC is located under control panel, user accounts

Superfetch can be located by clicking start, type msconfig in the little box above it, hit enter. It runs under services - msconfig is good for turning stuff off in your startup (google updaters, java updaters etc).

Wurz

Edit :- if you want to turn superfetch off to see if it makes a difference, click start, right click on computer, manage, go into services, right click it and click on stop.

I'm the worst pilot ingame ya know!!!

It's all unrealistic crap requested by people who want pie in the sky actions performed without an understanding of how things work and who can't grasp reality.

Also, if one does turn it (UAC) off, I think it's recommended to turn it off before doing anything in terms of installing and whatnot. Been a while and tired, but I think I remember seeing someone mention that.
As a slight modification to Wurzel's post:

To turn off UAC: Start> Control Panel> System and Security> Change User Access Control settings  :)

We got it working last night...I appreciate all the responses we have a great group of knowledge here.  All I had to do was roll back to the previous driver on the graphic card in the "system" under "adapters".  Played the game a few sorties last night and wow what a difference.  It's almost a completely different game to me from my onboard 32mb chip.
