pilot wound with no holes in canopy?
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:48:48 PM »
this happend to me 3 times yesterday. I've noticed its happening alot, not just that I'm getting more pilot wounds, but that theres no damage to the canopy. Could it just be that the game isnt showing the holes?

Could be shot through the airframe.  The game doesn't show those holes.

Did you look at the seat? Or under the instrument panel? All pilots don't get wounded between the eyes, the bullet may as well have landed between his "cheeks"...

the seat is armored..or at least it should be. and no. if there would be holes in the seat then there would be holes in the glass behind it

Armored != Impenetrable.

If you have the graphics turned down your not going to see all the holes either.

The holes that do show are just eye candy. They are not true representations of where the bullet truly went.

not nesisarily saying that. but when a .50 is shot from d800 behind me it should be.

I've seen the Brewster modeled into this game. The cast iron back rest of the seat was split in two by a bullet coming almost straight from the six. The seat didn't have armor, though, so a bullet from underneath could have penetrated the pilots buttock, and, depending on the angle, continued either to the windshield or the instrument panel, or, in a frontal attack, come from between the pedals penetrating the pilot's chest and flattening against the armored back rest. Remember, a pilot wound can be lethal even without damaging the innards. A 30mm cartridge breaking a leg, bursting the bone and arteria, would lead to shock and bleeding to death quite fast. Adding to that there's no room in the cockpit to bend down to make a tourniquet.

Armor is really for lesser rounds, 7mm, 30cal, etc. It's far less effective against 12.7mm or .50cals. It wouldn't stop 20mm much, let alone higher calibers.

How much armor?  What caliber and at what distance were you shot at with in the rear?

I noticed that too, but most likely a shot from the side fuselage.  besides it's like when your right wing takes the bullet hit and the left one falls out.
