you can buy two trucks at the same time same make same model same year of man. one can run for 15 years no prob, one will blow a head gaskit 2 miles from the lot. this goes with anything.
i belive the alternator's on the fords caused the fires, very common with trucks. but i think they fixed it.

negatory. cruise control wiring harness overheat. i can pull the tsb if ya want.

oh yea!!! well icepac has written the diagnosis on the poor design of your uncles transmission. yeaaa....dats da ticket!!  :devil :neener:

Not really.........but I did have to pull a transmission out of a very new mustang this week that was grinding after only 1 trip to the drag strip.   (warranty denied by ford likely because of aftermarket tune or equipment).

I checked on synchros and shift fork prices and found that the transmission is made in china.

We may well be replacing it with a tremec.

Go easy on your high rpm shifting.

already had a couple hi rpm shifts without incident. the 2011's had an issue. supposedly fixed for the 012's. so far, about 32 complaints. only 2 tsb's so far for 2011's. many more for a certain chevy/holden.  :devil

ford f-series trucks and e series vans from 94 to 2004 had a recall for cruise control wiring. there was a problem with the routing, and with the cruise control staying on, even though the vehicle was off.
this caused the wire harness to overheat. this harness was up against the master cylinder reservoir, which as on most vehicles today is plastic. it melted the reservoir, the brake fluid ignited, and burned the truck down.

the fix was simple, and could be done in about 10 minutes.

I saw the repercussions of this first hand on 2 occasions. Both were house fires that started in the garages. The causes were exactly this, one was an Expedition, and the other was a minivan. Our subrogation dept was able to recoup over 400k on one loss and 200k on the other.

yea....it can turn bad. a guy 3 doors down from where my brother used to live had a house fire from this.

ford sends out the letters, they make it clear that it's imperative to get this done, and people ignore them.

like i said.....we've had all of our vans and our bronco updated with that recall.

At the Paratransit company I used to work at the Chevy vans cost three times as much to operate as the Ford's due to mechanical issues, particularly the transmissions.

real world is that there are more ford trucks/vans on the roads than anything. they're more commonly used in fleets, and for towing.  :aok

Don't think so in Texas.

And strangely, this thread is about Ford Trucks, 2001-2011....

Disagree strongly.    GM's weak point are Instrument Clusters

Quoted for extreme truth.  I had a 2003 Duramax before getting my 2008.  The speedo would just stop working, and then at times the cluster would just fail completely.  The warranty was up and it was just one of those things I never got around to fixing as it was intermittent, but after getting service done at a GM dealer, a letter came in the mail saying it was a factory recall and they would fix it for free for me, which they did.  From what I understand it is a most UN fun job to do.

As for the everlasting Pickup truck supremacy debate, it'll go on forever.

I spent a year working around Fort McMurray, in northern Alberta.  Yes, that place, where all you Americans get your oil from.  That dirty, in the ground, tarsands, makes environmentalists cry place.  There are 60,000 oil workers there and all 4 of the major sites lease trucks for around one year due to the harsh conditions.  The place I worked, Suncor, would switch brands nearly every year between Dodge, Ford, and GM.  Mostly Gm and Ford though, and the common consensus was that the Fords since 2000 (the last ten years) endured the hardships better.  Having to work for a year in brutal conditions from -50 to 100 degrees F through a year bouncing over extremely rough roads that get torn up by 1.5 million pound haul trucks is likely the best place in the world to test a truck for toughness.  They all fail pretty badly within a year of very hard use.

I will say I've been happy with my 08 Duramax, but my next truck will be a Ford for sure, probably the Raptor OR an F150 with that V6 Turbo ecothingamabob in it.

That's pretty sweet Helbent. I'd drive it even though the radio would probably sound like it's from 1983 and the AC would be crap in it.

This HD Suburban concept has a 310 hp 4.5 Duramax in it. Me likey.

i gotta admit, although i'm a ford nut, i'm not at all unhappy with my dakota. 318 5 speed, infinity stereo. that stereo is the best i've ever had in a car, and i haven't heard any 90's fords or gm's match it. power isn't what it could be for the engine though..but she's still fun to drive.

Duramax with a tune are excellent. My truck is just over 108000 miles now and still on original brake pads.
