Actually I do hope it's successfully in as much as low jabo's will get shot down in droves.

But anybody remember's how it was for the first weeks the Wirbelwind was introduced? The ground was littered with plane wrecks for one, two weeks... until the rather slow average MA player did finally adapt and did fly less carelessly near AA vehicles and started to keep a bit more attention while vulching.

In pyro's post in the beta section the range for seeing GV in a normal aircraft is 1250 yards. So the Storch will see them at 2500. Bringing an osti to base attacks will have merrit now to swat the storks circling the battel.

You will see the wirbel tracers befor 1250 because many wirblers are not patient enough to wait or know the 20mm's effective distance in the game. I don't get hits anymore much past 1000 yards with the wirble. I tested offline with the target and past 1400 yards I didn't seem to be able to get hit sprites on the target. They seem to just dissapere past 1400. The manned ack seems to dissapere past 4.4k. Haven't tested the 17lb or 88 yet.

You can still see tanks in the air they do stick out a bit against the ground you just dont know what it is.

I wish that HTC would add different colored smokes so you could mark certain tanks with certain colors instead of just the generic orange which by the way is very visible and works very well IMO.

I did that test too after the WW came out. Max range was ~1800 yards. But you are right, effective range is much shorter, probably 1000-1200 at most. But that's near the edge of the range a sitting WW has for the Storch. Even a M-16 can hope to be back in the game with the new icon settings.

This will just lead to a false sence of security for GVers, anyone who thinks they will be better hidden from the air will be in for a rude awakening.

In Beta I upped a Tiger2 and whacked the same Gver several times until he upped a p38 to bomb me.  What happened was I simply drove under a couple trees (litterally, not a cluster) and he got within D800 of me and had no idea where I was.  Although you can see that little dot of a tank without the icons, i smart Gver can position himself so that it is VERY difficult to spot without an icon.

Like not having a icon when hidden, how about when out of line of sight. I've gotten kills by aiming at icons when a tank was behind a hill/tree.
