The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

Those explorers were rolling over due to low tire pressure.  Some fool writing the manual said that for a better ride you could deflate the tires to 20psi.  Tires started blowing out and since Idiots love SUVs more than any other demographic, lots of them rolled over when they eventually had a blowout.

Ford and Firestone pointed fingers at each other over who was responsible for the low pressure suggestion.

Yes blowouts did not help their inherit imbalance that was built into the vehicle.

I don't know of any vans or suvs that aren't more prone to rollover than a comparable car, not counting vehicles designed to be harder to roll over.

ford 15 passenger vans are very prone to rolling over. especially if not loaded properly. the cg is at the top of the steering wheel when these are fully loaded. i would imagine that the chevys are about the same.

suv's are mostly built on truck chassis, and the way they're built will raise the cg, thus making them more prone to rollovers.

in the case of the early explorers though, that was all on ford.........

15 passenger vans got redesigned a few years back.  The ones still in production have a longer wheelbase now for safety.  I've driven a few of the old style short wheelbase ones loaded to the gills and they were all deathtraps.  Especially at the end of winter warmish/sunny day with the 20 foot slab of ice that's been accumulating on top of the thing comes flying off at a stoplight.

it wasn't the short wheelbase vans. it was the long wheelbase. the short vans were 12pax, the extended ones were the 15pax.

The old 15 passenger vans were the same chassis as the 12, the extra row of seating was just added onto the rear.

Here is the old style

And this is the new

I could be mistaken but...isn't that a chevy at the bottom and a ford at the top?!

Yes, Chevy, Ford and Dodge all offered 15 passenger versions of their regular vans.  All had the same wheelbase as their regular vans until the NTSB mandated that they were all too dangerous (these vans were purchased by lots of daycare schools).

And here is a Dodge

I believe GM is the only company still making them since the mandate.  I've driven a few Ford 15 passenger vans on 1000+ mile trips to the rockies in the winter, I've also had one issued to me for work and they were most certainly deathtraps.
