My buddy just told me of a possible problem with the Warthog, and it's firmware. Apparently, a certain firmware version can cause the Throttle to die, if it isn't updated through the thrustmaster software. I haven't research the issue myself yet, but since my Warthog is supposed to arrive on Wednesday, I'll be doing that and planning on updating the firmware first-off!

This problem may or may not show up for a while after using the Warthog, so if you update the firmware right off the git-go, you should be safe. Either way it's a good idea to update the firmware anyways...

 You might check out warthog world to find out any firmware issues.

  It seems there are problems with both throttle and joystick,though from my knowledge it's either 1 or the other and almost never both. My JS messed up but was promptly fixed and I've had zero problems since.

  It's a quality piece and you should be very happy with it,BTW I dont use the firmware. Unless you want to program some complex features you dont need the firmware to program the stick in AH.

My stick comes tomorrow. I don't use the programming for the Cougar I use right now, couldn't be patient enough for something like that. I'm hoping i don't have to update or or upgrade the drivers or program it for Aces High. When World of Planes comes out i'll keep my fingers crossed and wait a bit before exposing the stick to that game. I'll try my ch fighterstick over there first. I haven't been able to play AH after ordering the new stick. The Cougar has developed slop on the roll axis and I want to get that fixed in the mean time. So far an upper and lower gimbel, now I need the piece the stick attaches to and passes through the gimbels. Still love that stick more than any Saitek POS.

I dont use the firmware. Unless you want to program some complex features you dont need the firmware to program the stick in AH.

Firmware is the basic code inside the stick's chipset, telling your computer what to do when an axis is moved or a button pressed. It's basicly like the BIOS (Basic Input-Output System) in computers.

What you meant to say, is that no additional programming software is needed for configuring the stick in AH.

Downloaded the drivers and no problems. I love this stick, it simply kills everything else I have used.

It's highly understandable for a less tech oriented person to mix terms. Heck, I still do it although I work with computers! My intention was to correct this little mistake, before someone goes and makes a fool of himself by quoting it as his own expertise to a real tech nerd.

That is a nice stick playing DCS: A-10C Warthog, especially that gatlin gun, soft hold technique to let the aircraft's computer establish itself for aiming before firing.

I have the CH gear trio and had to learn to use the CH Control Manager to setup my stick, throttle and pedals.  There are guys to their forums you can use for mapping ideas.  I use KonKuSSioN's map; he let me use his.  It mimics your new stick's layout.

I love that sim!

Some guys to their DCS forums are very knowledgeable and helpful.  You will find help there using your Warthog stick.

I do Aces High both ways, either in direct mapping without using the CH Control Manager or separately using it.  For me, as to things like also using TrackIR with Aces High, the CH Control Manager is better to use it.  How I did it is posted in the CH Hangar forums.  The other guy's mappings did not work with the current edition of Aces High---I tried them 1st.  To me, that CH Control Manager is at least one college 3 credit course and no instructor.

So far in Aces High the stick is really better than anything i've used before. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Keeping the Cougar as a back up though, you never know when something might go wrong.

Actually, DCS: A-10C Warthog is not the same flight engine as LockOn or Flaming Cliffs.

You might find the A-10C cheaper, especially currently at Holiday Special of 50% off, I think.

I bought the LockOn Platinum, 2 disk set for $20 at discount at my local Best Buy last January.  It included the basic LockOn and then the Flaming Cliffs disk.  Within 2 weeks I found out about DCS and the A-10C Warthog was just out of beta.  It was a bit pricy at $60 US, but that is all it costs, no server fees, and all future patches are free.  You can play offline or Multiplayer online.  With your new stick, you are missing out on its full capabilities not playing this sim.  The stickler for me was no CD was available and I had to figure out the process of downloading the 3 modules and installing the game/sim.  Steam has it now.  No published manual, yet, but there are several on the download accessed in "All Programs".  It is Windows 7, 64-bit based.

I think there are issues with Steam.  

I purchased mine direct and downloaded my wee hours in NY from their http Russia server worked for me best.

The new version Black Shark 2 can be played with the same flight engine as A-10C Warthog. There is another aircraft in the works to be added, but nobody is telling what it is.  I hope it is a Naval, CV based aircraft.  A lot of guys want the F-15.  Supposed to be a USA aircraft.  Somebody said just one of their aircraft involves ballpark 100,000 hours to develop, may be true, may not.  A-10C is in its 5th or 6th patch since I purchased it.

I am just referring and passing along the info.  I get nothing out of it.

I like this sim as being different from Aces High.

I like Aces High as a lot more easy going pastime than DCS.
