The most important way I can look at this issue is as a trainer who's job it is to help new pilots get into the AH community. One of the hardest things to do is to overcome the "shame" factor inherent in being a newbie in an online sim like this. Folks who are new to the massively multiplayer world are not used to getting their tulips handed to them repeatedly when they start playing a new game. Anything that diminishes that part of the game, without taking away from the "glory" part when we win significantly, is a good thing in my book. The new kill messages do this.
It's more important that the newbies feel as comfortable as possible when they start out than it is for the vets to have their victim's name announced. Sure, its a trade-off to a certain extent, but it is a smart one in my opinion, and good for the AH community in the long run. If you really want everybody to know who you killed, you can always just announce it yourself.

If you are sly about it, you can always do it by congrajulating (sp? I can't spell

) whoever it was on a good fight. <G>

http://users.andara.com/~sconrad/MY P-47 is a pretty good ship
And she took a round coming cross the Channel last trip
I was thinking 'bout my baby and letting her rip
Always got me through so far
Well they can ship me all over this great big world
But I'll never find nothing like my North End girl
I'm taking her home with me one day, sir
Soon as we win this war
