The F4U-1A Corsair, that's my #1 favorite plane to shoot down in the MA. I love the F4U, can't fly it so save my life. I am fairly new to AH, but flight sims in general are my drug of choice since I was 11 playing AirWarrior. I haven't been with any one plane long enough to really know what I'm doing in it. Just head out, get some E, and have fun. The plane I am honestly the best in thus far has got to be the P-47D-40!!! The bad part of this as she doesn't turn well at low speed, it will turn, but it's a workout with flaps and WEP, and if it's something that really can turn, your in trouble. I like them if furballs though, since the P47 responds well to my train of thought when I enter a furball.
1. Who is the largest threat. Probably the guy with both alt and E. Unless there are two aircraft flying as a pair, the double E advantage is the one who is most dangerous.
2. Who is the least threat. Where is the low and slow, hanging on his wing in a stall guy.
3. Where is the exit. How can I get out of here if things turn south and I still have enough E to make a break for it.
Obviously these will change as the fight goes on, but that last one is really the most vital, since the 47 can get smacked pretty good and still keep on juggin. While I know the roll rate of the 47N is superior, all other performance stats are in the D-40's favor. Don't get me wrong, when a fight is in sight of the field, the 47 isn't the best choice. But if you are on the offence, or just allow yourself space to gain alt and speed before the fight, there is nothing better for furball flying. High speed turns are outstanding in the jug, and if you can hit them well enough in the first few maneuvers, you can still have E left to recover and set up for another attack.
I love 109s in other sims, I just need more time flying them in AH so I can enjoy the benefits once again. I personally don't think there is a better fighter in AH then the G-14 when flown well. The climb rate makes them so dangerous, and flaps are kind to her.
