Calling the Mystery Machine
« on: December 24, 2011, 12:18:49 PM »
Something very strange is going on here...

Upped a 163 to intercept HQ attack and con turns out to be a P-38J.   So it's a griefer of another sort - someone out to waste your time.  I decide to chase him anyway and at 700 yards, he vanishes.  No kill, no nothing.

After reviewing the film, it can be clearly seen that this plane is changing altitude; climbing up until I start closing and then descending.  And then the expertly timed magic "poof".  Convenient.

My questions start with why wasn't I awarded a kill?  Secondly, there is no info available for this player on the score or stat pages.  How can that be if he took at least one sortie?  A Scooby Snack for whomever can solve this mystery.

Here is the uncut film:

FF to about 10:45 to cut to the chase.
"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

Caldera, I ran into this guy a while back. I'm not sure WHAT hes doing or why he doesn't show up in the score pages (I also noted that).

About 6 months ago (I think), me and a couple of other guys noticed a darbar upping from WAY back behind the lines, suggestive of a high-alt B-29 raid. We upped to intercept and after locating him about 35 miles beyond the map borders we caught upto him, and saw he was in B-17's.

We all made repeated passes at him. After I emptied my guns, all the bullets that EVERYONE fired magicly passing through him, I decided to ram him... I just passed right through him, like you do with a friendly.

There was another incident, a year and half ago, of the same guy bombing a vbase I had just helped capture, and destroyed all our hangers..... he had a firendly icon.

Only other time I encountered him was when I was chugging along in my Panzer IV, saw his jeep driving along at a blistering 7ish mph, and hit him multiple times (both HE and AP. Hell, I even lobbed a smoke round at him too) with no kill.

I reported all incidents to HTC, but got nothing back from them. Best I can tell, Dale enjoys f****** with us.

You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

He disconnected from the server, most likely lost internet connection or internet was surging. It happens, you might / might not get awarded a kill.

Simple as that.

The passing through of bullets/no collisions occurs when you are off the map.  I have seen strat raiders climb off the map to get to high alt then not turn into target until it is clear to do so.

More than likely he discoed accidently or deliberately using a kill switch.

This game deals with psychology of thinking human beings.  There is always the unexpected move.

From the pilot statistics page:

From the pilot score page:

From the plane statistics page - checked out the P-38J section and there he is:

Alt F4

If the other guy Alt+F4 out of the game and you were as close as caldera was then a proxy kill would have been awarded.  If the player discoed then no credit would be awarded.

It's been already explained the most likely cause why you weren't awarded the kill.  To solve the second mystery, you spelled "MAVERlCK" incorrectly and that's why you didn't find any of his stats.  There isn't an "I" in his name, it's a lower-case "L" instead of an "I".

Mystery solved, where is my Scooby snack?

Excellent work sir!  For that, you get a whole box.  Due to certain monetary exigencies however, they will have to be sent C.O.D.   :D

Double or nothing if you can figure out why on Earth he spells it that way.  Maybe to ward off angry PMs?

why would anyone care about stats? Quite frankly, scores and stats don't show anything. They can easily be manipulated.

This thread has nothing to do with playing for score or stats for that matter.  He was curious about a player is all.
