Battlefield 3 Help Needed
« on: December 27, 2011, 06:30:11 PM »
Hi all,

I finally got a new computer to play Battlefield 3 on. The only problem is that there is a lot of Lag issues even when I'm on the lowest possible graphics settings.
This computer has:

12 GB of RAM and 1.5 TB of Memory.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

What is is your CPU and Video card?  What type of Internet do you have?  Also there is a HUGE Forum which you can find on Battlelog to diagnose these Problems.  When you say Lag it makes me think of connection I assume you meean you are having frame rate problems or performance Issues.  I can't tell you about your lack of hardware or if it is sufficient with only your Ram and hard drive.

Ram and HDD aren't everything. What CPU and GPU (Processor and Video card) are you running? A DxDiag would likely be best if you aren't sure. Start>type in Dxdiag>save all> copy/paste down to the sound devices section.  I run around Medium settings with an AMD Phenom II 555 X2 / GTX 260 with decent FR (~25-40) to give an example.

from there the Dxdiag it's easier to point out the problems.

A DxDiag would be even better and I can run High with a single 5770 an i7-920 and 8gb of Ram.

Graphics card? If it's an Intel onboard chip, it's not going to cut it, even if your CPU is some godlike 5.0GHz monster.

I'm running on a mix of medium and high settings on a Radeon 5570, Core2Duo 2.9Ghz. So, really, the game isn't THAT demanding as most folks make it out to be. (Max resolution 1920x1080).
Check if Vsync is turn on or off, and play with that. Make sure you have the latest drivers. And if all else fails, try windowed mode.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Click Start. Type in dxdiag. Press Enter. Go to display. It will show you everything there.

I tried playing at the lowest detail on a smaller screen, it works a bit better still really low fps though.

I'm running a Radeon HD 6450.

That would be your problem. ATI cards are numbered based on their generation and power.

The first is the "generation".
The second is the "power".

So while a Radeon 6450 might be newer than a 5570, it is still less powerful.
The 45--/55--/65-- series are really low to mid range cards, they're not powerful enough to run today games on max settings. The 44--/54--/64-- are even weaker.

If you're looking to upgrade, look at your PSU and your motherboard to see if you can't buy a high end card. If you really want to max every single game out there, a Radeon 6970 or 6980 will do it.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Wow, they go for over $330 on Newegg. That's a bit expensive. I guess I have something to save for.  :cry

I run BF3 on high or ultra on a ATI 6870 with an intel dual core e8400 and 4GB DDR3 1600 ram.  You don't need a monster system to run the game well.

The 6870 is a decent card and will cost less than $200.  Ya may want to think about going that route.
