Gimp question

How do I save an in progress skin file and keep the layers separate when I re-open the file? Yesterday a made layer for the panel lines saved my progres, when I opened it today, the image was flat with no layers.

Its a file type problem. PSD and probably TIFF allow you to save files with the layer information intact.

ya challenge is right save it as a GIMP file which is "xcf".....look for "save as" under "file" when you want to save it as a BMP its in the same place....if you are not using "Bright" to save it into indexed mode you should, it does a much better job of it then GIMP.

XCF is your best choice for saving layers.

And flat images should be in PNG for originals. JPG will lose data on every save, even at 100%.

IS there a way to combine 2 layers into one? Some how I made a copy of my panel line layer mid stream and did not realize it until I finished all the lines. Now I cant evenly adjust the transparency because the overlapped lines will be darker.

ya..in the layer stack on the right merge the layer down...make sure the layer you want to merge it with is on bottom ( i believe) and the layer you merge down above it....

this is not  golden rule you can merge layers down through the layers....

well here it is...wow went through a crap load of pages.....

anyways....make a new folder call it "Bright" on your desk top...extract the files into that folder..inside should be a file....one is like a batch file click on this it should convert to indexed....you must save it under advanced options as "24 bit" then click the batch file to convert.
