a whine disguised as a request
« on: January 10, 2012, 03:17:55 PM »
First and foremost, thanks to the AvA staff for the work they do to keep the best arena in AH going. So here is the whine: Anybody besides me missing the B17? I did a quick search of the setups listed on the forum here and had to go all the way back to the week of Sept 3 ("Stepping on the toe" setup) to find a setup with a plane list including the B17. (not including special setups like jet week or WW1 week). Aaaaand here is the request; can/is a setup that includes the B17 be coming soon?

Ok, now for the disclaimer that comes at the bottom of all whine threads. I am aware that the B17 did not take part in every major or minor air battle that warrents inclusion in this arena, and I am not trying to deride the other setups that don't include the B17.  I just enjoy throwing in a random bomber run when I fly in the AvA, and I am missing doing this in the best looking bomber available in the AH plane set.

/end poorly worded yet still annoying whine  :D
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

Also I assume AvA is recreating a specific event, regardless of what was available in the timeframe

you mean Operation Husky? because I know the guy who did the write up and that sheep lover only listed the B24, B26, and TBM for allied bombing. I also wouldn't put it past him to enable the B17 but disable the bomb loadouts; he's got that kind of sick humor.  :P

15th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron, flying B17s; and the B24s where used for anti-sub work.  I only did a quick skim through that link, but I didn't find anything about B26s being used.  :headscratch:

so close yet so far.  :cry

Operation Avalanche had b17's used if I recall which also came right after Operation Husky if memory serves me right.

99th Bomb Group of the 12th Air force operated over Sicily in support of Husky.

Messerschmitts Over Sicily by Steinhoff has accounts of JG77 attacking B-17s, if I recall correctly.
