I know this has nothing to do with AH, but as most of us are Vets or Military History Buffs, I was saddened to learn today that Major Dick Winters passed from this world January 2nd, 2012. If you have never seen Band of Brothers or read about his expolits in Stephan Ambrose's book of the same name, he was a born Leader and a magnificent soldier. I have read somewhere that many of his former colleagues, family, etc are trying to get the necessary items and paperwork together to award him the CMOH from his exploits in Normandy in June, 1944. He was awarded the Disitinguished Service Cross for the action in which they are trying to get him the MOH due to the fact that only 1 man from each regiment was to be awarded the MOH for the Normandy Campaign. From what I have read in the past as well as heard about he is more than deserving of the Nations Highest Honor! If nothing else, I just thought that we should recognise this great soldier, man, and leader.
"All the Way" RIP Major Winters
