New Damage
« on: January 14, 2012, 11:20:04 PM »
New things that should be damaged.

1. Radio (no vox, can still type)
2. Turret/Main Gun on GVs (turret damage = unable to turn turret, gun damage = can't fire gun)
3. Cockpit gauges (non essentials only, speedometer, altimeter, fuel and RPM stays invulnerable)
4. Bomb bay doors (unable to open or stuck)

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

What would the point be?  If the "damage" does nothing to hinder me it's a waste, IMO.

But I think all cockpit gauges should be able to take damage.

+1 on all but #3 - kinda pointless for the game...

as for #4 - I'll fly around finding bombers just to ping their bombbay door and fly away laughing - Especially 30K+ B29's - ping their doors and leave them mad  :devil

4. Bomb bay doors (unable to open or stuck)

On both the B-24 and B-17 it's possible to drop the bomb load through the closed door.  On the B-24 the sliding bomb bay door will unzip out of the track, good chance of loosing the door.  On the B-17 the arms that hold the door closed are designed to release with a little over 100 pounds of pressure on them allowing the doors to swing open, will be unable to close them.

How about engine dmg where some of the "nonessential" guages become essential?

For example in WW1 arena if you smack our prop, the engine can stay running at much reduced power...whether this produces useful thrust...I have not figured out yet.

And as a question, historically, what gets damaged frequently, that would affect an aircraft, but not necessarily cause it to crash...right away.

+1 to instrument damage. One of the few things I liked from the Il-2 series. (Before any of you say anything, the flight model was definitely not one of the things I enjoyed.

IL2 does not run well enough on my PC, what did it have?

Well what I dont like is knowing that some planes can lose half a wing and recover, but some cant.  Some are harder than other of course.

I would like to see a dmg model that doesnt state (you hit this part hard enough it's destroyed)

Why does gunfire always remove an alerion, half a wing, flaps or the whole wing?  (I know why..but this is a wish)

I would like so much to see a dmg model where the aircraft isnt hit as a "hitpoint basis" but as dmg to the actual modeled airframe and its components.  Eric Parker (known most for A10 Cuba) was getting close to this idea.

+ 1 for all of them but make all gauges be able to take damage. Also like someone said earlier add hydraulic line failure.   :aok

When I posted about this wish before, some folks didn't like it because it would hinder gameplay/combat (antifun), and I agree with them somewhat. It was fine to do it in IL2 because you could still see your speed in the corner of the screen. Yes, you could also do the same here with E6B, but it's hard fighting with half your screen taken up  :P

#3 is for eye candy mostly and for a tiiiiinnnyyyy bit more challenge if you happen to take damage to it.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

A big +1 for the instrument panel damage.  The sad thing is it would take a HUGE amount of coding to get it added to the game.  Far more than HTC is willing to do, I'm guessing.  ;)

I would imagine so, having the retexture every single plane cockpit and then the coding for it to be get damaged. Still would be awesome eye candy though.
