Want to upgrade comp to run AH better
« on: January 19, 2012, 03:44:16 PM »
System:
           Microsoft Windows XP
           Home ED
           Version 2002 (I know lol)
           Service Pack 3

           Sony Electronics Inc.
           VAIO Comp
                   Intel(R)
           Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
           3.00GHz, 504 MB of RAM

If anyone has this same system or knows what I would need to get it at least up to par please let me know. I had a list of what to do before but I cannot seem to find it at this time. I would rather buy a whole new Comp but there are many things I need to take care of before that...thanks.

I'm assuming this is a laptop, correct?

If so, realistically the only thing you can do is upgrade the RAM.

Is there a model number anywhere on your machine?

Sony VAIO laptop from several years ago.  Yep, not much you can do to help it.  Even 50 bucks for ram would be a waste, save it for a new comp.

At this time it would be like changing the oil on a car with a blown motor.

Well if you can afford more then $500, I would suggest you talk to TilDeath about him setting you up a system.
500 MB of ram is a huge issue, I am running 4GB and I am about ready to throw my laptop out of a window.

Look up http://tdcomputersystems.com/ tell him what you have for a budget, and see what he says, you can give him a ring

Your old Vaio can't really be upgraded to run AH better, but if it otherwise is intact I'd still recommend to install a little more RAM into it. With at least 1 GB, preferably 2, it would be par with those popular mini laptops but with a larger monitor, totally capable to do banking, office work, e-mail and surfing. Your laptop most probably uses DDR1 type So-Dimm RAM which has got a little pricy lately, but it still costs only about $30/GB. If it by chance would be DDR2, the price would be below $10/GB.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.
