The German-held Kuban bridgehead,
situated along the
Taman peninsula, was an area of
extreme importance to both
sides. The Germans saw the region
as essential to protecting
the eastern approaches to the Crimea ,
whereas the Soviets
viewed the bridgehead as a
launch-point for another possible
German offensive into the northern Caucasus .

This looks heavily stacked in the LW favor.

In 1943 the P-39D wasn't still operating. I see on google it's listing some 39D-2s at Kuban, but keep in mind the D-2 was an uprated boost and ran with a hundred more horsepower or so. The most common models were K/L/M/N, and in-game this matches almost identically to our P-39Q performance. Keep in mind the Soviets removed the wing guns on most P-39s as well to improve performance, and our P-39Q allows removal of said wing guns. You should use the P-39Q.

Also, the Soviets only had a smaller number (about a dozen or two dozen) P-40B/Cs. By 1943 the common aircraft were P-40F/L, and some E (though these are not representative of 1943 as our boost setting were downgraded in the last upgrade to reflect early E models, not 1943 ones with WEP). I believe the N was a great Soviet export as well, but I don't know off the top of my head if it was present at this battle or not. It is quite likely.

Further, there is no way the Hurricane 1 was still active as a frontline fighter in 1943. The Hurr2C was barely still active. Nix the hurricane.

The Soviets didn't like the spitfire much, and kept it as a home defense aircraft, often assigned to regiments flying sweeps to protect their city. However as far as actual combat with the enemy it was rare to almost nonexistent. This is why we don't have hardly any Soviet spit skins -- it's hard to find any that were proven to have seen combat!

Finally, you limit the La5FN to 1 rear base. This is the only plane on the list that was actually there!! And the only one even close to competing with the German planeset! Over 1500 La-5s were lost in 1943. It was the most common plane in the VVS at the time if I recall. Over 5000 made. In the summer of 1943 an La-5FN landed at a German field giving them a plane in perfect condition to test, even.

It's an interesting battle, but you don't do it justice in any way! You've set up a 1-sided turkey shoot for the Luftwaffe, and hamstrung the Soviets.

Thanks Krusty.
I wanted to give your efforts the courtesy of a reply. .Sorry for the late reply, busy day

A few things to consider.

I would disagree with you that its hamstrung the Russians. I have run and played very smiler set ups and found them a blast.

In the hands of a skilled P39D or P40 pilot, the 109G's are a great fight match up. Especially using organized wing work. If those arnt enough the spit will be readily available and the LA 5 is close to a fight no mater were she ups from (the map is relay small)

I will be flying a P39D on this set up.  :x

I love the thing and do not feel hamstrung in any way shape or form.. Why should you?

Just last night I was fighting P39 against 109G's and F's.. I did fine.. Im sure you could too. If not get a spit or La5.

Another thing to consider.
One thing I do with my set ups is layer them.
If you have noticed in my past set ups I have a tendency to add air craft into the set ups as the days progress. Attempting to give the set up a dynamic feel.
I leave something to the unknown.

Ill post things such as a  squadron of LA 5's has arrived at base A4 to aid in the defense of the air space over sector X,X,X ..

Like this... scroll through the tread its ever changing... http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,319951.0.html  or  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,322244.15.html

Further once bases are captured players will find additional Ac (air craft for their country) available to them at the newly captured territory.
This gives the the setup's a dynamic feel. Don't worry about it.. :)

My write ups are only a starting point for what is to come.  I don't like to give it all away at once... Its that fog of war thing..

I Agree spits were not VVS favorite AC..Yet spits were used and there are some very interesting reads on it.
Yes the Russians didn't like them because they were susceptible to ground fire and were mistaken for 109's but they were there and well they are in the set up for playability/balance its more than an equalizer..
Im sure you have seen this.. http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/spit/index.htm

As for the Q, keep apprised..
Personalty I like the D allot. I love the 39D and will choose it over the Q any day.

http://war.by-airforce.com/articles/Kuban-1943.html

The hurr C... prolly wont happen. Its  one of those AC that.. well... you know.. goofy canons..

last set up I eased one it into, produced the effect of cleared the room within 15 minuets... We will see.. I'm still kicking it around.. That B holds its own when flown how intended. Especially using welded wing and loose deuce..

In any event, as you well know,  were balancing  between playability and a theme of history with the tools/ AC at hand.

Some day It will be nice to have a full arsenal of all makes and models of AC,  Id love to see some early yaks, migs, and Pe-2 lagg's and so on.

You have kindly taken the time and effort out of your busy day. Your efforts demonstrate that your a very well meaning and thoughtful individual.
Thank you, it doesn't go unappreciated.

I hope to see you up there soon..

This map needs a set of clip maps installed showing were the town is.
Some of you may have it already.

On the avsml terrain the towns are located at the airfields.
you can dl clip maps here.

its a pretty good setup. historically correct or not Krusty.

I've had a couple of really good fights in the G-2 and G-6 against jappa52 and some others. jappa is 1 hell of a stick in that thing.

only thing i ask is, Raven, why are you always sitting on the runway?
