CC, found it.

You know, I've been beating my head against the brick wall we know as Aces High for ~2 years and never knew that was there.

Perhaps HTC should make one of the text channels "help" by default.

 :bhead

Been a good long while since I had a completely fresh install, but I thought that was the case when one started from an absolutely new install?  I clearly remember detuning it at some point.

If a player has never fallen for the alt f4 initiation as a noob, they will never be true AcesHigh players  ;)

There are lots of us who never fell for it.  Heck, nobody ever tried it on me.  But I did a lot of reading about the game before I ever logged into an online server and didn't ask very many questions on the open channels.

Me, either.  I'd probably fall for it today if anyone tried it on me.

Never figured out how anyone got pleasure out of doing something like that.

This is my first online game ever. I love flight, played on a nationally ranked intercollegiate atheletic team, spent years in the military, etc. This whole idea of hazing people is just foreign to me. It's about teamwork and comraderie. Alt-F4 is cute and all but I put it right up there with HOing, etc.

Everyone pays their own $14.95/mo so entitled to have their own fun. I can't imagine hazing newbies is going to build our ranks.

The Alt-f4 gag is a rite of passage.  It applies to other games as well.

The retention of new players is hugely important.  If the revenue stream gets too low.  The game closes.   I have been involved with a few games that died due to fading customer support.  A good example was: EA's Motor City Online.  The game seemed healthy to me, yet EA was not hitting the numbers they were shooting for.  So bingo....the doors close.  We got no warning...no impassioned plea from EA to get more people playing? .....just Bingo ....it's over.  That could happen to aces high....so don't be naive.

I still miss Motor City Online, everyday.  It was a huge part of my life.

So the next time somebody asks how do I drop the flaps?.  You might consider what life would be like with out Aces High?  Remember all the people who took the time to help you when you needed help? Even if you are some hotshot pilot, who even read the manual. I'll bet you asked somebody a question, in the game or on this BBS.   They didn't have too help you, but they did.  All I ask is that you "pass it on".

by the way ....I still have not read the manual.... :lol

There's a manual??? man i wish i knew that years ago  :cry

But seriously everything you said was right, if we wanna keep playing we gotta encourage growth which means not flaming the newbies looking for genuine help... as for the know it all "I'm the best, Everyone else sucks, and I don't need your help newbies, then flame away... burn em to cinders!
