Reputable dealer and joystick
« on: January 25, 2012, 05:02:33 PM »
Well I had another X52 fry out on me and was hoping someone could suggest a good joystick/throttle setup and a reputable online store to buy it on. My X52 just fried. In controller the axis's got stuck in the corners, the buttons on the stick dont work or flash all over the place causing windows shortcuts to start working up. I tried every which way to connect the throttle/stick "thottle and rudders work fine". Its definatly the stick.

I cant take Saitek anymore. Any suggestions?

Since my Saitek throttle is working fine can I plug the CH stick into it and have it work? Also a reputable dealer would be appreciated. There are some real scam artists online.

You can use the saitek throttle on its own.  The CH stick will have a separate USB plug for the computer but both can be used together at the same time.

Lots of people play with a CH stick and an X52 throttle.

The only drawback is you won't be able to use the saitek software to program the CH stick or the CH software to program the saitek throttle BUT most people don't bother with the software in the first place.

Thanks. I found a Local place with a new X52 for $90. Reasons why I would do that?

I just dont flight game much anymore due to poor health. My last two X52s lasted 4 years, and the last one almost 2. So I can live with $90 every 3 years. But mostly I didnt want to go thru all the mapping to new controllers. It tooks me months to program my old Aces High SST program and I dont want to mess with different hardware/software.

I came "this" close to ordering the Warthog but just couldnt justify the $400+ to spend on it. I have DCS but dont play A-10 much cause I just dont have the time or desire. So? All is well for now. Thanks for the replies.

Rich52, are you using a powered USB hub?  If not, spend to 20 bucks or so and get one.

I hope this isn't off topic but in general how important is a joystick? Within a range of effective, I know a horrible joystick will kill the game. I have a Logitech: Extreme 3D Pro from Walmart for $40. Would getting something like the X52 change that much for me, enough to justify purchasing it? Or, no big deal?

Thanks in advance from those who know more...

I don't know if it would enhance what you already do or if it would just create another headache with remapping switches and learning a new layout. If you are happy with what you have then stick with it. Me personally I am and have been happy with TM, CH and even Saitek occasionally. I have spent more on HOTAS setups in the last 20 years than I probably should have but I have at least tried them all and I didn't spend a dime on my Warthog which offsets a bunch of other costs for me.
