Power Supply
« on: January 28, 2012, 01:45:43 PM »
About 30 minutes ago I managed to cook my 3 year old 550w power supply. I think the fan quit and it fried :cry.
Any thoughts on brands that I should get? Looking for one around 600w and up to $115.

Going to take longer for me to get TrackIr now :bhead

Many people recomend Seasonic, Corsair and from readin reviewsd, OCZ has good supplies too. I don't have any expierence with them, but I know they are highly recomended.

Seasonic or Corsair are your best bets.  I'm currently running an 850W Corsair.

I'd highly recommend using 650W as your minimum if you do any gaming at all.  Even if you don't need it today you probably will.

was eyeballing the 850...until my tech teacher got me a thermal take for 100 brand new. good reviews on it..... but I do want a Corsair or Seasonic. pricey though for either brand.

Seasonic is the best.  Some Corsair power supplies actually have Seasonic internals, but that's not saying that all Corsair power supplies are Seasonics.

I've heard Antec can be good but I've had so much luck with Seasonics I can't find it in me to recommend anything else.

Many companies don't actually make their own power supplies - instead they just "rebadge" power supplies made by others.  I found a list that may help you here:
