Hi all,
Seems that if someone care about scores he make something shameful. Come on guys. Competition is the nature of the man, we are made this way, and if there are scores they will motivate compitition between us. If you aware of it or not, if you want show it or not, but many of us who plays here do care about scores. I just would like to get stats how often the scores page in AH site is hit every day. If the number of hits will be low I will be very surprised.
For me competition is the part of the game I play, does not matter if it is computer game, card game, board game, soccer... whatever. I love AH's gameplay and if I did not I would never stay with it. There are billions other games with scores but I do not play them. I play AH. But scores are adding some purpose, and makes game more interesting, at least for some of us. I can be absolutely excited by the fight with a good ace, even if I lose it but I can be also excited by the high place in the rating I got after pushing hardly toward it. When someone say that scores driving fun away, well, for him it may be true, but we are different, and what is FUN we may understand differently. For some people scores in the part of the fun they get from the game. And I think that putting some restrictions in what is FUN and what is not FUN on the base on your personal understanding is a bit silly.
I also heard that scores may prevent someone to help out friends out of trouble, to work toward some goals etc. Again, lets be reallistic. How many of us would be ever care about scores if in REAL LIFE we saw friend attacked? If we had choice between getting one more kill or saving his life? But, AH IS JUST A GAME. We are not dieing here, we are not shot down and friends are still alive and healthy 1000miles away from you in the town you never heard about, and the worse may happen he will be annoyed of frustrated by his virtual death. If you love to help friends out do it. If you love take score for a kill do it. There is no ETHIC choice here. Do whatever gives you the fun of playing, because games created for it. Well, you shall respect other players too, and shall remember that your freeedom ends where other people freedom starts, but I do not see how checking scores may offend anyone.
Again, only thing we see while playing is a million of pixels, no planes, no chute shooters, no acks, no runway. All what we expirience is only in our heads. And if scores important to someone in this GAME I think it is not wise to tell him how wrong he is if he check the score page.
What is really discussible is the system the scores work and how fair it is... but it is the subject for another thread if anyone will care to start it.
