And tough too!  Just for grins I took a peek to see where I would be in the pilot scores. Expecting to be somewhere in there, but I am not even in the top 100!

Back in my Warbird days (a month ago) I was always in the top 30 or so in the Historical Arena.

Do I care? Not really.... having WAY TO MUCH FUN!!!

<S> to all of you who find me a fun target.

There are alot of Vets in here from all different flight sims, I've noticed ALOT of CK beta days(warbirds) in here as well, that's over 5 years + of experience.

Don't pay attention to score, it's meaningless in a game of this scale.

Don't feel bad daddog. Noticed the same thing myself. If I do get close to to being on the list I end up defending a field somewhere & get vulched 18 times.

Or roll a tank 18 times in a row trying to reach somewhere without some darn plane spotting me.

Like Rip says, haveing too much fun to care about score.

It's very good advice not to pay too much attention to score. If you have an obsessive personality it makes you question every move you make, and that can be even more dangerous than flying recklessly. It's kinda like getting married during the war (as they show in the movies); you are ok til you fall for the dame, then she's the death of you.

I'm not like you guys- I'm amazed if I look and I'm in the top 100! I will give you a tip about score (in case you don't already know it). You need to spend some buff time to move up, as well as C47 time. I don't know how ground vehicles fit into the picture (I rather assume it will be separate).

The main thing is to have fun!

Daddog, don't pay any attention to the rankings.  Even if the ranking method is accurate, the kill scoring in this game is is hosed.  So if you feel like you are doing pretty well, you probably are.

Hea!  Daddog!  No worry bout score! It may indirectly make you hesitate, and that could be costly!  Score is nothin!  It is the excitement of obtaining the goal!  Score watchers tend to get panick stircken or upset when they get flamed.

You are right Daddog!  These guys are good, very good. I never take any encounter for granted. Noone should!  It is a death wish to do that.

I never brush anyone off either.  If it was a good fight, I call them on radio and let them know how much I enjoyed the melee!

Well, I never called anyone and said, "Hey!  Good vulchin!"

Daddog your just as good if not better, and your on-line personality is very welcomed and I love ta see ya in the air!!

Take Care and c ya up there!!

Score means nothing to pilot ability.  I havn't landed a mission in 2 months of flying.  I don't think DMF has either.  We seem to do ok

Hi all,

Seems that if someone care about scores he make something shameful. Come on guys. Competition is the nature of the man, we are made this way, and if there are scores they will motivate compitition between us. If you aware of it or not, if you want show it or not, but many of us who plays here do care about scores. I just would like to get stats how often the scores page in AH site is hit every day. If the number of hits will be low I will be very surprised.

For me competition is the part of the game I play, does not matter if it is computer game, card game, board game, soccer... whatever. I love AH's gameplay and if I did not I would never stay with it. There are billions other games with scores but I do not play them. I play AH. But scores are adding some purpose, and makes game more interesting, at least for some of us. I can be absolutely excited by the fight with a good ace, even if I lose it but I can be also excited by the high place in the rating I got after pushing hardly toward it. When someone say that scores driving fun away, well, for him it may be true, but we are different, and what is FUN we may understand differently. For some people scores in the part of the fun they get from the game. And I think that putting some restrictions in what is FUN and what is not FUN on the base on your personal understanding is a bit silly.

I also heard that scores may prevent someone to help out friends out of trouble, to work toward some goals etc. Again, lets be reallistic. How many of us would be ever care about scores if in REAL LIFE we saw friend attacked? If we had choice between getting one more kill or saving his life? But, AH IS JUST A GAME. We are not dieing here, we are not shot down and friends are still alive and healthy 1000miles away from you in the town you never heard about, and the worse may happen he will be annoyed of frustrated by his virtual death. If you love to help friends out do it. If you love take score for a kill do it. There is no ETHIC choice here. Do whatever gives you the fun of playing, because games created for it. Well, you shall respect other players too, and shall remember that your freeedom ends where other people freedom starts, but I do not see how checking scores may offend anyone.

Again, only thing we see while playing is a million of pixels, no planes, no chute shooters, no acks, no runway. All what we expirience is only in our heads. And if scores important to someone in this GAME I think it is not wise to tell him how wrong he is if he check the score page.

What is really discussible is the system the scores work and how fair it is... but it is the subject for another thread if anyone will care to start it.

Fariz-

I think you may be reading too much into this thread.

The people here are speaking for themselves on their view of scores. I would personally never tell you not to check or use the score system. I will tell you I fly and enjoy the sim a lot better when I am not caught up in staying in the top #XX.

There are good and bad sides to any issue. Scoring does promote competition, sometimes that is good, sometimes bad. This also happened in real life, with many top aces very concerned about their rival's kill numbers. Werner Voss, perhaps the most talented pilot of WWI, was killed while trying to surpass Richtofen in the "Ace of Aces" race. He jumped into a flight of SE5a's, alone, and held them all off for 10 minutes (this is like you jumping into 8 P51's in a Spit V).

In short, the score can make you do realistic flying, but it can make you do some very foolish things, too. Just my opinion, of course.

Well, being the lousiest pilots of you all, I had quite a surprise looking at the scores yesterday... All that realy matters to me is the K/D ratio and I am pretty happy with the fact that I might not be good yet, but I CAN see some improvement in my scores...

Beta 3 : 0.6
Tour 1 : 0.8
Tour 2 : 0.9
Tour 3 : 1.2

So, I am still VERY far from you guys, but at least the scores helps me see that I am not spending all those hours getting shot at for nothing

I wonder what an alien race would think if they could see millions of humans screaming and yelling at brightly lit phosphorescent dots on the surface of cathode ray tubes?

Keep on going or nuke us from orbit?

Score is not very important to me. What is important to me is landing my kills. The other night I had a two kill sortie going, and I announced on the squad channel, "rtb, fuel getting low". DMF yelled back "Fight until ya die or run out of fuel!"

Hehe, to each his own.
