Is top fuel drag racing starting to catch on anywhere else besides the US?

I know drag racing is boring in a lot of ways but look at these facts.  For top fuel dragsters and funny cars.

Top Speed:  330mph  (530kph)  0-100mph takes 0.7 Seconds
Estimated Horsepower 8,500 - 10,000
Torque:  6,000 pound feet
Downforce generated from engine exhaust alone 800-1000 pounds

'starting to catch on' .. now *that* is funny!!

Heck of a lot more Drag Strips to run on in the '60's than there are now.
Top Fuel wasn't an all Hemi show by any means ..Olds, Chevy, Pontiac ..heck some even ran Allison's :)

Don Garlits started makin history when he bolted a blower on a 392 Hemi and went for it in the original Swamp Rat.
I beleive Shirley was a Top Fuel digger driver before she got into Funny cars and became known as 'Cha-Cha'

The match races tween 'the Mongoose' and 'the Snake' were legendary.

Was that before nitro methane when they were putting all manner and number of engines on all wheel drive cars?
