As for the pot in the commercial, it sure makes TWC come across as a company that endorses smoking pot to kids, since the commercial aired early in the game when kids would reasonably be expected to still be watching.  Hey look how cool our cable TV service is, we even have POT and it's COOL and totally OK!

So, lets say they had a The Soprano's clip in there too. Does that mean they endorse The Mob? Or organized crime? Or murder?

It's a TV show for crying out loud.

I wasn't aware that mob participation was a problem with kids in school nowadays.  Seriously, that's an apples-oranges example.  I don't worry for a second that my kids will be exposed to the mob as early as elementary school, but I am positive that they will be pressured to smoke weed at the latest by the end of jr. high school.  I don't need the cable company telling my kids that it's ok.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Has the mob put a gun to your head to watch showtime?

My first line of defense is regulating what the kids watch.

Pots not illegal because it will hurt people, or destroy lives. It's illegal because the American lumber industry would've been crushed by hemp. The hemp plant produces no THC, CDB, or CDG. It can't get you high even if u smoke a pound of it, and yet it's illegal grow hemp in the US. Why do you think that is?

I have heard the excuse it will be too easy to mix cannabis plants into a hemp crop, to hide it.

I am all for legal pot.

They are basically the same plant, different varieties.

I hate to be lazy and use Wiki, but the following is the original reason for it being illegal:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marihuana_Tax_Act_of_1937

They thought it would cull the influx of Mexican immigrants and give them a reason to stay home.  It would have been legal to posses, use, etc if one had the stamp, however, there were no stamps ever issued (not in bulk, anyhow)

The Gov. tried the same thing with opium and the Chinese.

Both plans failed.

That's the excuse they gave to congress, but it was all about money.

its hardly promoting weed, if you recognise the plant variety from that 1/2s clip you've either:

 a. grown/smoked weed or
 b. arrested someone for growing/smoking weed.

otherwise its just a foxy older chick holding some kind of houseplant.
