I wish they had sticks.

Not sure what other aircraft are missing them.

You know what I don't understand, why didn't HTC update the Tempest at the same time as they updated the Typhoon? They are so close, might as well do them at the same time.
Same thing was with the F4U-1C and the other models.

There is a "First Gen" AH model (those that Karnak named) and a Third (current) model, which is the majority of those that we have. Is there a second Generation? I think the B-24 was labeled as such, correct me if I'm wrong.

B-24, Ki-84 and T-34/76 were the first of the current generation models, barring the 2048 cockpit texture resolutions that were introduced with the Mosquito Mk XVI.  The Spitfires and, if I recall correctly, the P-51D did get redone once during AH1, but I don't know that that would be enough to label them as second generation and the current as third generation.  The way I see it there are first generation which have less historical cockpit gauges and no moving controls in the cockpit and second generation models which have cockpits more closely resembling their historical cockpits and have the moving controls in the cockpit.

MachFly pointed out the AH1 model I had left off my list, the Tempest Mk V.

Karnak, the P-51s, the 109s, a noticable number of craft were updated to a second, intermediate, level of advancement.

It is enough to say they are night and day to their 256x256 "1st gen" predecessors, and again it was night and day from them to the newer "3rd gen"...

Although now we are in a fuzzy state, IMO. I'd say we're at least 3.5 gen of bitmap graphics. We have refined bitmap layouts on new craft, more control over how they look, and in some planes even higher resolutions! (B-29 has 4x the resolution because it's so big, at 2048x2048). We get things like more detail in the damage model (gear doors, without losing the gear... Shredded flaps without the flap being gone, etc).

However it's still very closely tied to the changes we saw with the B-24/T-34/Ki-84, so I consider them "3.5" instead of flat-out "4".

My thoughts on the matter...

Krusty,

Exterior textures are separate from the 3D models.  We have 1024 skins on the C.205 that is a 3D model from AH v1.00.  First generation models do have a lot of mirroring and stretching on their textures though. There have only really been two distinct generations of 3D models, the ones released during AH v1.xx and the ones released or updated during AH 2.xx.  Within those time frames there were distinct increases in 3D detail, look at a Hurri or Bf110 compared to a B-26 or an A6M or Mosquito compared to the B-24 or Ki-84, but the 3D generations are only at two.

The fact that some aircraft had two or even three first generation models doesn't equate to a new generation.

The one texture that does seem to be tied to a generation is the 2048 cockpit textures introduced with the Mosquito Mk XVI.  If we are to list a third generation of models it would be the Mosquito Mk XVI and later aircraft.

Tempest is AH1 as well.  I forgot it when I made my list.

How I think of the generations in models is between solid announced changes

1st Gen is AHI
2nd Gen is Moving parts
3rd is 2048 Cockpits
