whine thread
« on: February 07, 2012, 09:25:50 PM »
Feeling pretty disgusted with the game play as of late.  It's getting to the point where I have to fly uber rides just to survive in the hordes these days.  Since I'm not in the same league as most of the experten posters on here, I would get slaughtered in a 5 ENY ride with the stuff I just saw in Late War.

So, I tried to plink at vulchers and steamrolling bombers with a field gun (surely they're only looking for a fight - they would let me get my wheels up, right?) and this exploit (previously mentioned in the Bug Forum) has reared it's ugly head again.  Not only do they crush you with overwhelming numbers, they block out your last line of defense:

You can't see if there are available field guns or not.

Same here.  There is a pattern emerging.

Hard to believe it's anything but a new horde modus operandi.

As if that's not enough, these pictures show the locust-like hordes that are rolling from base to base tonight:

Clearly, the rooks are only setting up for a fight here.

And the nits are only simulating a North Korean human wave, forgetting which war the game is based on.

There have always been hordes, but lately I can't find anything but hordes, suicide porkers, or high alt town bombers.
At least give me a bunch of quad Bofors to cull some of these tards.  And please fix this bug.

Any map with a TT will always equate a horde. All sides do it, either you fly in them or find no action.

Maps with TT give players who just wants a fight a place to do that, and reduce the amount of hordes or at the very least its size, because there are plenty of players who could give zero crap about base taking, like me.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

They all do it all right, but it wasn't always 100% steamrolling.  Could have sworn it used to be different.

It's gotten worst and worst as we go on. The more people that see it work join in to be part of the "group" and it just feeds on it self. Kinda like the furballs of old. A few guys would run into each other and battle it out and then keep coming back enjoying the fights. Next thing you know other start to notice and joined in until you had a nice big furball going on.

At least back then there was some fighting involved. Now to best you can hope for is a few picks before you get over whelmed.

Sounds almost like a "Toxic Arena" situation.

Feeling pretty disgusted with the game play as of late.

It's getting to the point where I have to run away out of proximity kill range and bail for the specific purpose of denying a kill to someone who earned it when I up a ME163 expecting bombers but instead find a game fighter who drags me far from base.

Fixed...

This thread + the film = irony.

I do not totally share your ideas.

I do believe that current gameplay is "encouraging" more massive attacks to take a field than it has in the past.
And I do believe that a mentality of "F" the hoard exists to a degree

But I think I might know why.

When I get the typical country "ALERT BASE # NOE" It is pretty much suicidal for me to up and defend, by the time I see the dar pop, and even if I immediately up, there is now way I am going to have even close to the E state that my opponents have, regardless of the numbers.

Except that these raids "believe it of not" do not actually often work if the opponent fields alot of aircraft...say four or five.

I think the problem lies in that it takes too long to take an undefended base, thus requiring more aircraft to accomplish the goal in a shorter period of time.  By that I mean that a sneak attack takes so long that it is no longer a sneak attack.

My fix:  Double the time a town stays down., and change nothing else.  This puts a very real threat of capture of that base, and promotes a much more desperate battle to defend it, as opposed to a "hopeless" one.

Please let manned gun icons to show through bomb craters
« Reply #7 on: February 07, 2012, 11:07:02 PM »
I'll admit that it's rather annoying that you can't see what guns are up or down when there is a bomb crater blocking the icons for them.  I don't care if the crater is there or not, just have it set so that you can see the icons for the guns through it. :aok  And/Or have it set to where if you don't actually select a gun, it will put you in the next available gun in this order(?), 37mm -> 88mm -> SB.  Now I haven't actually tried to spawn into a gun w/o selecting one yet, or if I have, I don't remember the result.  In any case, having the icons show through the crater would be awesome. :aok

As for the hordes, meh.  One way to counter it (albeit a small way) would be to include the Industrial Output of a Country into the victory conditions (since they usually are trying to "win the war").  Hitting and lowering the Industrial Center of both Enemy Capitals to below 20% then doing the same for the outlying strats in it MAY spread the horde out a little, or they will horde the Capital (which is likely the case).  Since the horde usually go from base to base, it's more than likely that they will end up pushing the Capital back into 163 territory on the large maps before hitting it (the Capital, as you know, would already be in 163 territory on the small maps).  And while they might climb to 30+k, it wouldn't be a problem for the 163's to go and get em if in 163 territory. :devil  This would increase combat over the Capitals and give some bomber interceptors more than a few targets. (This one I would love to see implemented)

Another way would be it change the capture requirements of the bases based on their size/importance.  Small Field/V-Base 10 Troops, Medium Field 20 Troops, Large Base/Port 30 Troops.  This would probably not change the size of the current horde though and may, in fact, increase it.

Yet another idea would be to add 1 or 2 manned guns in the town, maybe 3.  Going the 3 gun route, 2 37mm guns and 1 88mm gun (which would FINALLY give us an AT gun for the town).  At which point, a change in the clipboard selection would be needed.  An easy one would be to have Gun Ship or Field (which is what we currently have), then under it, Gun Town.  This would also bring up an icon map for the town like it does for the field. (This one I would like to see implemented)  So long as we can see the gun icons through the bomb crater of course. :aok

Dunno...  I didn't have any problems finding decent fights for the little while I was on tonight.

Funny how the whiners become the horder's in a matter of minutes: Here's a view of the map 20 minutes after HIS Screenshot was taken:
You see 2 full dar's plus a third out of range, minus the ground vehicles.

What are the dots you ask? Typical 15x P51s and random sets of buffs to kamikaze to shut the base down.

the other day there was around 80 of us in the arena.  about 20 of 25 bishops were at one base.  not like the bishops are the only ones doing it, we all do it, there's no innocent people here.  thing is how do we get away from it?

I don't think caldera is whining about a specific country being worse in terms of skill-less hording than others, I think he's just upset about the crappy gameplay in general.

Did you see my dad on dogfights yet?
I'll be seeing you face to face possibly next month.

Problem is it happens to all 3 countries in the matter of minutes. Despite what he's complaining about - The A5 / A10 fight has been quite nice all day, both sides going back and forth. He just logged in 5 minutes before it shifted back to his side.

A5 was capped probably 40 minutes after his screenshot was taken, the fighting shifted and A10 were back to defending.

Anyone dogfighting between A5/A10 can agree its been quite fun tonight, not the typical "shuts down the base" situation we always have.

Edited:
I will say this, first time I see vTards in aircraft that don't require taking down all the hangers, they were actually dogfighting.

I agree with your assessment on the crater obscuring gun choices.  Please fix HTC.  You oughta move this one to wishlist Snuggie.

I see great teamwork, just like there was in world war 2 by the allies of multiple countries like us Britain and France.
