I believe they were testing for ETOPs, but it doesn't mean you have to fly around in a straight line. Someone bored thought it up.
Your going to pay that much money so a few people can see your "awesomenes"? I think it's a lot more awesome to do a hammerhead on a small airplane then what they are doing on the 87.
