You know whats weird about magazine photos and Tv and all?  Ordinary people look like gibbering trolls.  Even in 1945, or whenever, Jimmy's fishing buddy looks like crap while Jimmy just looks normal.  Any of you guys know if Jimmy's movies got darker after the war?  My understanding is he flew in combat though I can't understand how the PR stooges didn't stop him.  Anybody seen "Strategic Air Command" ?   You gotta like airplanes not to be bored.  One of the big scenes is a zero zero landing, which I challenge any body to make gripping in a movie.  Thanks for the link.

Cesar Romero was always a favorite of my Dad. Romero joined the Coast Guard in WWII and refused a commission. He was a Boatswain's Mate and treated the enlisted men to some pretty wild parties with Hollywood starlets. He saw action in Tinian and Saipan.

Jimmy Stewart was a Squadron Commander in B24s and finished up with 20 missions or so and as a Colonel and Chief of Staff of the 2nd Bomber Division, 8th AF.

I always find it ironic that we consider John Wayne our Hollywood image of the WW2 soldier, when Oscar winner Jimmy Stewart was actually there in the thick of it, flying a 24 over Germany.  My understanding is he made it clear he did not want to take any acting roles that glorified war or made use of his WW2 service to promote them.  I think SAC was the exception but that was not a WW2 film.  Funny that he plays a 4F in "It's a Wonderful Life", staying at home while his little brother goes off to war as a combat pilot.
