Found a snake
« on: February 12, 2012, 07:01:47 PM »

BTW, it's about 3 feet long, about the same general base color as a red tail boa, and has round pupils.

Nah, no reason to kill it.  Call Animal Control and the snakes can continue to kill rodents.

Looks like any of these native snakes?

It's a non-venemous snake. I'd swear that except for the lack of a red tail, that it was a red tail boa, the coloring and markings are really close. I've had ball pythons, definitely not a ball. I'd really like to identify it, so i can feed it.

Meatwad may have been referring to the temperature in IL, but honestly, if it isn't native, it should die or at the very least never go free again.  I know it is harsh on the snake, but sometimes life sucks.

It's tough to judge from the pic but it looks like a ratsnake.

It could be a native species and if so best to release it somewhere it can make a living. If it is a boa as you suspect, dont release it but find it a good home.

For snakes in general, I'd agree...

But if it's a non-native snake?  Kill it or keep it in captivity.

Animal Control would know if it is Native or not.   Which is why I pointed that out in my post.   Most here would go the "kill it for the sake of killing it route".

Any way to get a bigger picture? It'd be easier to identify.
