Cell Phone Processors
« on: February 15, 2012, 08:16:03 PM »
I was thinking about an old thread asking for a mobile version of Aces High and it got me thinking how close cell phone technology is to being able to run Aces High.

Aces high list a 1.8Ghz processor and the minimun and as of right now the fastest phones out there are at 1.5Ghz. Quite close.

Minimum ram is listed as 512Mb. I've found several phones with 1GB of ram and some even have 2GB of ram. It is DDR2 but I think it would do the job quite nicely.

The one thing I'm not sure about is the sound card. I'm not sure how that would work out and can't really find much about it.

Obviously right now there are not any joysticks that work with cell phones but I would think they would be easily created when they're needed, however they aren't needed yet.

I've heard that several players play on a computer tethered to a cell phone on the EDGE network, which is slower than a snail, but works. With 4G and 3G starting to cover a larger area this will not be a problem.

So we're not there yet but certainly getting closer. I'm not saying there will ever be a mobile version of Aces High but within 1-2 years the technology will be there to support it.

blue tooth joy sticks is how I would expect it to be done, speaking of computer games on your phone you can already play minecraft on your smart phone!

I have a 1GHz processor with 768MB of RAM on my smart phone, gonna upgrade with my plan in a year, maybe by then they will have contact lens phones like in Futurama  :lol

Huge difference in a 1ghz cell phone processor and one you find in a computer.
