Sound folder stuck as read only

I can right click on properties and remove the read only flag for the sounds folder and all the subfolders.  Click apply and ok.

All folders and files are still read only.

Yeah Ranger's sounds.  I'm just trying to lower the gain on engines so that I can hear vox on the film viewer.

Avast antivirus is the only live software I run for anti-whatever.

Windows XP will always show a folder as "read-only" and partially grayed out.

That is because a folder cannot be directly written to.  The files in the folder can be written to, but the folder itself is directly maintained by the operating system.

So why won't it let me save the .wav files after I lower the gain on them?

It tells me they're read only when I ctrl S.

If a file is marked read-only, then that check mark needs to be removed.  If you cannot remove it, then there is something on your computer preventing it, or you are trying to change it while it is opened by an application.

Files can be unmarked as "read-only".  Folders cannot.

I assume you are using some add-on sound package?  Just navigate to the sounds folders, select all the files, open the properties box, and uncheck.  That should do it for all of them.

It sounds like he is trying to edit them while AH is running so he can test the effect it has on them.

Nope, AH not running.  Film viewer also not running.

That's what I tried doing in the first place when it told me the file is read only.

If you are trying to adjust the volumn of any given sound and getting a read-only error, then the file you need to look at is in the "settings" folder and is named "sounds.cfg".  That is where the volume is saved for each sound.
