At least the oil in Aces High isn't this bad!
« on: February 23, 2012, 12:00:46 PM »
Here's a cool sequence of photo's from the Naval Aviation Museum website, it's an F4U-4 recovering aboard our very own USS Randolph CV-15 . I'm glad not all engine oil hits are this bad!

Well at lest this guy saved his perks!

LOL Krusty I've seen that one and it's pretty bad, but the Jug didn't land on a carrier. Or risk any perks!

Can you imagine the whines if they changed the engine oil hits to look like that???  :lol

Would be cool, though, if they looked like that, as long as we could open the canopy and fly looking out around the windscreen kicking a hard side slip on approach!

I wouldn't mind it. Just let us open the canopy say once you get under a certain speed. 300MPH?

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

I'd say the ship was turned so the pilot could see his landing platform and also to basically put it as close to under him to make up for some of the visibility lost

Was just about to mention that those boys all had the option of at least opening the canopy to see outside and could lean just a little bit. Obviously great landing by both of them.

From what I've read it was common practice for landing F4U's even without the oil hit due to the 0 visibility over the nose of the thing.

The last picture gave me a chuckle.  The pilot appears to be sitting there relatively calm looking at the guy off the edge of flight deck as if to say "what's up?"

From what I've read it was common practice for landing F4U's even without the oil hit due to the 0 visibility over the nose of the thing.

We Americans used the Corsair on land only after trials showed it to be a booger to land on a CV. You can't see over the nose.

The Brits developed the ideal way to land the monster. Come in from 9 o'clock and turn in right before landing. Obviously what this guy was doind. He turned a bit late due to circumstances.
