any of yall remember the combat tour that was being devoloped? i would like to suggest a variant on the idea for the ava arena.

the idea here is to do the war in microcosm ie 1 month game time = 1 year historically. for example forst month would be 1939 with only the equipment available at that time in the #s produced. so if the germans produced 300 109s in that year then thats all that are available for that month. the rough idea is to recreate the war at the end of 1945 month whichever side has advanced the farthest would be the winner. we would have the same map for 7 months. this would require somebody ****cough ranger cough *** to mak a map to represent all of the theatares. dont know what this would look like but im shure a reasonable represantation could be made that covers both the eto and pto. on the eto side only the ac that were there would be represented in the hangar. we would have to make it to where players would have to agree to play for only one side for the duration of the tour but not be restricted to one theatre. would like some feedback from the community on the intrest and feasability of this idea.

We have tossed around similar ideas. We've talked about a "World at War" terrain representing all major theaters. ETO in the west with appropriate German British and US equip etc. Islands on the east side with USN and IJN carriers and such.
south MTO, north Russian front.The map would have to be huge and chopped and spliced leaving out large world portions. I'd like to do such a map once I really learn the TE.



One of the problems we have are that finite numbers of AC can't be enabled, meaning that we would have to manually keep track of the numbers destroyed and manually disable them at the right time.

People also might get sick of the same map for so long.

Concepts like this are harder for us to do than you might think with the tools we have, but are certainly worthy of discussion, we might find a way to do something of the like.

   Prowl3r, I got your PM last night to check this out, but was waiting for Jim to stop in here first, as I knew he had a similar concept in his noggin.  The time, effort & logistics needed for such a thing would be staggering from a staff point of view.  Something so big would be almost a separate game all by itself.  I just don't think we have the resources or player base to put that much effort into it.  If we had 50 players a night in the AvA I'd be all for it, but the amount of hours it would take behind the scenes to run it correctly for the small player base we have just wouldn't be worth it.  Plus we already have peeps that complain about terrains/set ups being up for a week.  Imagine the grief we would get if it didn't change for a month at a time.

   I don't like telling people that are trying to help "Sorry, we can't" but this is just one of those times.  It's just an immense project that wouldn't have the payoff in the end.  I want to  :salute you though for taking the time to present your idea.

jim, ranger thanks for responding

the points yall made are precisely what i am driving twoards. granted the player base isnt there now so i agree about the work involved, but i also feel that if there is the same interest in this concept as there was with the original combat tour concept that the base would be there (build it and they will come?) variants of the idea may bring us to a point that the full concept would be viable. what i would like to see in game are more historical matchups. right now we have fso and snapshots and ava these are great ive spent years plaing in these and enjoyed them immensely. as to the long term maps the proposed map by jimson woould have to be epic in scale so that players can explore and battle it out without the map becomeing stale. this may mean a totally separate game for us to devolop and i realized this when i started this thread which the idea was started when i saw jims map some time ago. well thanks for your consideration and willingness to devolop this maybe after some time we can hammer out a workable idea :salute

The game is constantly in development. I'm hoping that new features will come about that will make ideas like this more feasible.

Some of us are always daydreaming about ways to bring aspects of this about. Something similar may yet be tried at some point.

If they ever let us use AI in the AvA (we have asked) then something like this would be much more feasable.  Then something like this could really become a reality. :salute

Weekly theaters - same year. The problem might be inactive theaters during the early years.
