I love Spitfires. Why are players called dweebs when they fly spitfire? when the "dweebies" plane is clearly the pony delta..too many planes out turn spit, most planes can run down spitfire, guns are OK, but if You take a hit, you will most likely die.. so why is the spit a dweeb plane?...If you answer "because butcher flys them" you are wrong, just because butcher is dweeb it dont make plane he flys a dweeb plane..i hope :x

The Spitfire is an excellent all rounder and really does everything to a good level, that's why it has its reputation in Aces High. Other aircraft tend to do one set of things very well at the expense of others.

I think the answer to the question in your title is: it depends what you do with it.

Some ppl enjoy flying the spit and become real good.  Just like other ppl fly another AC and enjoy flying it.

Who cares what other people think. If you enjoy flying spits then fly spits.  :aok

It's not the plane that makes the dweeb.

The Spitfire was unquestionably one of the greatest warplanes from WWII and as such it has a very justified place in AH.

As to being a dweeb if you "fly" one in AH, well, of course you are.  Just as you're a dweeb for "flying" an A6M, Bf109, F4U, Fw190, La-7, P-38, P-51, Ki-84 or any other aircraft in AH.

We're all dweebs just for playing the game.

I remember my first month here.......I somehow got lucky in week 4...by sneaking up on...and taking my time with....and eventually shooting down...3 enemy Lancs.  it was a HUGE deal for me...and to this day..I still remember every move..and roll..and turn...and retreat..and sneak back....

what I also remember.......was the what the pilot of the Lancs said on 200: " ZetaNine..you and your crappy little spitty shot down my Lancs....you and your spitty suck".

....I will remember that forever. I shot down his set of Lancs.... and my plane sucks.  the irony in his words still makes me laugh.

anywho...I prefer the Niki now

General because it's just user friendly. It can do alot of things very well, where other aircraft can only do a few things well, but lack elsewhere.

The spit climbs well. Dives well. Turns well. Firepower is well. Accelerates well. Holds E well. It does all of these things well, while not being over the top great at any.

Ex. Pony climbs average. Dives great. Turns average (low alt). Accelerates average. Holds E great.

As you see, the Pony, next to the Spit is better at Diving and holding E, where as the Spit is better at climbing, turning and accelerating.

You can look at a lot of different AC this way next to the spit and you will find similar things, they are great at certain things but maybe lacking at another, were the Spit is still holding fairly well.

Dweeb plane? No, the plane is pretty good, and a jack of all trades just about. Now the pilots of spits, they can definitely be dweebs!  :devil

Excellent point.
I don't think spits are dweeby I think they are very annoying because I have a really really hard time with them in the 205 and they are everywhere.  I don't know why but I don't get nearly as frustrated when dealing with K4, 190, corsair, mustang, la 7 as I do when I come across a spit16.  I hate them, they never seem to lose E, they roll and turn and climb, I hate them, I have no strategy for them, they should all burn in hell.......

I have to admit though that I fly the spit16 to for divebombing since its so easy to fly, and I kind of like the seafire so....

Pies not kicks.

It's just that the guy that you just shot down needs to call you some name as he is pissed off.

Think of it this way, if your enemy is not happy that means your doing your job.  :aok

Here's an article I read.

The Supermarine Spitfire (not to be confused with the Submarine Spitfire) was a Britisher aeroplane used from 1948 to 1862 partaking in all seven world wars that have so far been discovered by man.

The original prototype was discovered under a large rock in Shropshire by Lt. Col. The Rt. Hon. Sir Reginald Mitchell-Bartleigh-Billing-Crompton. Instantly he, being the mechanical genius that he was, realised its potential as a fighter aircraft second to none.

Modifications to the machine began three days after and were completed some minutes later. The first flight-capable prototype was dubbed "You are joking, right?" by the test pilot when he first saw it and the flight crew all laughed because he was such a very funny man. And this name YAJR was emblazoned on the side when the aircraft was put into museum storage.

Needless to say the first test flight was a disaster. YAJR pootled in a small circle at about 8mph regardless of throttle and flap settings. After weeks of tinkering and looking over the plans it was discovered that this was because the Supermarine company had, in fact, built a heavy goods locomotive.

“Now I come to look back on it, the boiler and tender were a dead giveaway. But I really thought it would fly. Jeffers thought it would fly too... Bast***...”
~ Lt. Col. The Rt. Hon. Sir Reginald Mitchell-Bartleigh-Billing-Crompton

Mechanical Aspects (Comparison of Prototype and MkI)

Prototype (YAJR)
Configuration = 2-8-0
Driving Wheel Size = 56 1/2"
Coal Capacity = 9 tons
Boiler Pressure = 225psi
Grate Area = 28 sq ft
Tractive effort = 32,800lbs

MKI
Crew = one pilot, two externally slung riflemen
Length main = 29 foot, 11 inch
Loaded weight main = 6,622 lb
Engine (prop)= Rolls-Royce Merlin
Type of prop = supercharger V12 engine
Max speed main = 378 mph
Ceiling main = 35,000 ft
Guns= 2 .303 guns

Combat History
First used in the peninsula struggles in Greater Spain during the Greater War the Spitfire or, as it was known at the time: Plynal Purplyne, proved to be a worthy and powerful contender to the air superiorityness of the Germy LooftVaffer. Capable of climbing to its maximum ceiling of 32,000 feet (69 cubic litres) in less than 2.8 seconds and capable of a maximum dive speed of 17. This was far better than the ME109's maximum dive of 13.7.

The Plynal Purplyne or, as it came to be known, Spitfire, once combat trials were over came to be used in all theatres by the Englandish RAAAAAF. Used as far afeild as the BritishEmprire colonies in India, Antarctica and Mars it proved capable of adapting to adverse conditions with extreme capabilityness.

Variants

MKI: Carried 2 .303 bolt action rifles in the wings operated by 2 guards riflemen.

MKII: Removed rifles and "Idiots Firing Them" and replaced with machine guns.

MKIII: There was no MkIII.

MKIV: Supercharged Rolls Royce Merlin, King Arthur and his Knights Of The Round Table V27 engine gave increased top speed but caused minor chonological problems at 88mph.

MKV: V27 engine replaced with V2. Not cylinder layout, actually a Nazi V2 rocket engine. Soopadoopa.

MKVI: Experimental escape switch added that, when depressed, inflated the aircraft to fifty times its original size in order to confuse the enemy. Mostly confused everyone.

MKVII: Guns replaced with more bigger guns.

MKVIIa: As wartime supplies of aluminium reduced, alternative model VII was built entirely out of the finest Welsh slate.

MKVIII: Final model, VII modified to carry 120mm cannon on Chobbham armoured turret. Did not fly well, later rebuilt into battle tank.

The Spitfire Mk XVI (16) is tied with the La7 as being the biggest and most obvious crutch airplane in AH, and anyone with any sort of experience and/or talent in the least bit should be ashamed of themselves when the take to the virtual skies in one.

Otherwise, the Spit 1, 5, 9, 8, and 14 are aircraft with limitations and learning curves longer than how many bites it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop.
