How messed up is this statement.
« on: February 27, 2012, 12:41:16 PM »
I work at a paintball park somewhat near Camp penelton. We constantly get current military and past military personal here. I was thanking and talking to a consistent player who gave a hand with the other players Saturday night. Our park honors military personal and gives discounts  :salute :rock. I told him to ask registration for a military discount next time because he was not aware of that we did that. He was happy to hear that we gave discounts and he said "that’s good because moneys tight and other places can be weird about discounts". I asked how is that and he said, "well get this, I was at a atv shop and dropping off my bike when I asked the girl at the counter if they had any military discount and she said rudely, 'we don’t honor your era'. How messed up is that? I was shocked

Find out what shop it is and let the vets know about it. Word can be passed to current and past military folks and they can vote with their wallets. Pretty stupid thing to say and do considering the financial impact of Pendleton to the area.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

To 'honor' is a verb commonly used with regard to discounts and coupons, and accounting has quite the vocabulary.  If it had been a hectic day, then she was probably stressed out and didn't realize that it was a hurtful pun.  It's just like someone from here saying "roger" to a question by accident- it's the force of habit, not malice, that causes such behaviors.  Did he even tell her that she hurt his feelings?  Then we'd know whether it was just an accident (if so, then it was a very funny accident- admit it) or if she did it on purpose.  Thus, let us not judge lest we be judged ourselves.

Being a child you would not understand. It has nothing to do with feelings and all to do with respect.

Maybe you should think before you post instead of trying to over-think everything.

If they "Honor" other "era's" of military service then why don't they "Honor" the current "Era"? nothing funny about it....

My being a child has nothing to do with this, and you acting all superior because you're older proves that you are the one who needs to brush up about respect.  Think about it, when you post, I don't say "get back in the nursing home, you old coot," and I don't say "how's the Alzheimers?" whenever you make a mistake.  However, you see no problem in belittling me because of my age.  If anything it shows that you don't understand respect.

Mason: We can't assume that they do, but I agree that if what you say is true then it would be a hairy situation indeed.

The fact that he felt it was rude did not mean that it was intended to be so.  Groaning loudly in a post office may be rude, but if you're at your wits end there's not much left to do.
