As to who's parts to use? It's green apples vs red apples really.

Someone mentioned Model 1 sales. We have been using there upper kits to build AR's in class and have had no trouble with them at all. The kit comes with a complete upper (unassembled) and the internals for the lower. All you need then is a lower receiver. This is, by law, the gun itself because it has the serial number, so you will need to get this through a dealer/store. As for the price for a lower? I have seen them from 75$ to as much as you want to spend. Really about who's name you want plastered across the side, as a lower is really only a housing for all the working parts.

I already own a 10/22 and I agree that its sweet.  Im looking for a .223 ar type rifle and want to spend under $800 (I know thats a tough one)

I'd go with assembled jolly. Tomorrow I'll dig around and see who has some good deals. I've seen them on sale starting at $599.

Jolly go to a book store and pickup a copy of shotgun news. There is a list of people that hold an FFL that will do the yellow form and call in the back ground check and order the stuff you want, the guy I use charges me 20 bucks and calls me when the items come in. And shotgun is the place I find all my parts to build my guns.

I just use the pawn shop closest to me for FFL transfers, cost is $25.  When I looked at it, I bought a rifle as a single unit because it really wouldn't have saved me much to piece one together, at least for what I was getting.

I found a FFL right near my house, my problem now is if I go with a 16 in barrel it is a 7 day wait and $100 to do all the paperwork here in MD


MD seems almost as bad as CA............I guess I could drive up to DC and find one on the street

I've shot the sub 2000 alot, nice gun good to go for a 9mm carbine. I fondled the bullpup 7.62 at the local gunshop seemed nice. I'll make a case for a cheap AR that is high quality. Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport.
