This has probably been discussed before, but would there be any interest in an automated 1v1 and 2v2 system? Something that would run for say 2 weeks or a month, with winners declared at the end. To qualify for a winner, you would have to participate in at least n fights (50? 100?). It would be auto-matching up to the final rounds. So, you go to the tourney arena, get in line, and get matched with somebody. You fight. You can do another round if you want (have to get back in line, and will get different enemy). Maybe in this phase, you can lose up to 50% of the max required victories, and keep going?
Once you have hit the magical # to qualify for the final round, you stop the random matches and wait for the final round to start. In the final round, the contestants show up in the arena, and the host computer matches them up according to a regular playoff tree. you lose, you're out.
I don't know how exactly that would all work, but the idea is to have a way to have a playoff that doesn't require admins to set up every fight. For everyone to show up at exactly the right time, etc. etc.
Personally, I'd rather be able to say my wingman and I came in #47 in the 2v2s than say I came in first in "points" in the MA.
