new maps before new planes
« on: March 07, 2012, 08:57:44 PM »
Gonna sound like a whine but can we please have some new maps (something bigger than the usual we are seeing).  I understand the time it takes for map making and the labor hours needed.  Pull some of that labor off of aircraft development and put them on terrain building.  The 410 is gonna be great but how much could it have been used tonight (evening of 7 March Eastern US time)?  The current map is nothing but a dueling arena in the main arena.  Give us 2-3 new large maps and you can model any new aircraft or vehicle you want (my personal opinion).

I hear some new maps are being worked on and a great big <S> to you all but please can HTC help us out?

Does HTC no longer take player designed map submissions?

Yes they do.

I recently tinkered with the terrain editor software and gained a great deal of respect for those who do make maps.  It is tedious, time consuming, and causes hair loss.

Here's an idea:  Make it worth players while to make maps suitable for the MA (lots of qualifications for MA maps).  If someone can create a map that passes the qualifications set by HTC and gets put into play, why not give them some sort of reward like 6 months free membership.  Just an idea.

What do you want mapped? The main has quite a few creative ones and just about every campaign that existed in WWII is mapped. Now if the best of the best would map me a Spanish Civil War terrain I'd buy them a case of Sangria.

I would like a larger set of MA maps.  It seems the maps in rotation are getting used "heavily".  I seem to remember larger maps in the past.  I'm not sure if they became defunct after a particular update or for some other reason.

Now, that we have a single LW arena the player numbers have increased to the point where these small maps are crowded to the point of constant stalemates.  I'm not proposing going back to dual LW arenas (I particularly like having one arena) but maps that work better for large numbers of players we now have.  There are those among us who detest the "horde" mentality but I feel that it is a side effect of the map crowding.  I like having maps with a lot going on but tonight's map (see earlier post for exact date and time period) was so crowded that the ONLY game that could be played was the furball and GV spawn camp.  Nothing wrong with those aspects of the game (even though we do have the DA for those activities) but with larger maps we could better utilize all aspects of AH.

Hm. Interesting points. Wish I had the skills/time to give it a go. May try it someday.

What would the ideal GV spawn look like?

I'm assuming the vague description of arrows and dashes denotes you would like to see head to head spawn points...

I'm pretty sure many maps have tank towns where this is the case.  I'm also positive that there is a location in the DA where this is encouraged but used little.  Nevertheless thank you for responding.

Lets use this forum as an attempt to describe what we would "really" like to see in the game and not a thread that becomes a useless line of emoticons and "lols".

Maybe someone will read this and become motivated to help create a map that gets used in game.

So here is another question.

What aspects of a MA terrain makes for the best gameplay?

I'll be the first to answer my own question... Need a large map that provides multiple fronts to both enemy countries distances between bases that allow some flight time between bases.  I've only been playing for a couple of years and want to hear from some veterans on this subject.  It's obvious that I'm the type of player who enjoys the strategic aspects of the game.  I like to take bases and win maps.  Personally I feel that if you want to furball you should go to the DA but hey that's my thought and to each his own.

Bring on the discussion.  If you want to post silly little pics and add to your post count please move on.

Best,

-Climber

I'd be interested in working with a group on a map.  So long as the group can decide on a decent general layout.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.

Cool idea.  That would divide the labor up some.  You thinking of one person designing the land, one doing base layout, etc?

Maybe... But I think we should keep in mind that a Camel, is really just a horse designed by committee.

Maybe we could take a top down approach instead by having a place to post your map overviews.  And then groups can form on their own around the general layout they wish to work with.

+1 to that idea.
