We have a great game here, but how many subscribers will this game need to survive?

500 subs $30 each =  $15.000

$15k isnīt that much, isnīt it? You have to pay wages, pay for bandwith and hardware etc.

IMHO even 1000 subs will not be enough.
But how to get more customers?
Thatīs the question, but I see a couple of solutions.
  • Add more arenas (team deathmatch with fighters only and a all-vs-all deathmatch room)
  • Set up a beginners arena with relaxed plane physics and make it avaible for a short period of time only (2 month for a new customer)
  • What about an official help file, not only explaining keyboard commands, no, explaining the game itself (how many bombs for building A/B etc.)

Just some ideas and some stuff to discuss about. And donīt misunderstand me. I love the game as it is, but IMHO it takes too much time to get in. I highly appreciate the work of the AH trainer stuff, but...can the trainers handle hordes of newbies (and HTC will need them to make money and keep the game up) ?

Hi there.

Right now there are over 1000 members in the different squads in AH. I think there should atleast be another 500+ that are not in squads (wild guess).

So to sum it up there are alredy 1500+ (1000+ for sure) members today.

Regards.

I am surprised there aren't more subscribers. Maybe the word hasn't gotten out in a large enough degree - most of my sim riends are oblivious to the fact that Ah exists.

When i introduce them, they whine some about the difficult flight model, constant trimming etc, just as I did. It has a steep learning curve, but the reward is great.

I don't think AH will die - on the contrary, if I had any money and HTC was on the stock market, I'd bet some there.

And *sigh* some in M$. Yes, being a devil here, but that's Easy Money, IMHO. The Dark Evil Cannot Die, and the stocks are sooo low.

Then I sell them for a profit and give the money to charity, say Death To All Spits Organisation, or Evil Atheist Conspiracy.

Or The More Santa's The [fill in blank]

I think a manual we could download would go a long way, whether its in Acrobat or Word format, something like a toned down version of what we'd expect in a boxed game, a list of keys, a quick summary of how the strat model works, maybe a run-down of how much ord to kill a target and how many drunks needed to capture a field, nothing too long-winded just an overview of it all. Perhaps the community could provide some literature for the HTC team to either put into the AH manual or have them as fully sanctioned addendums to the HTC manual downloaded from this site?

hey I've tried to get the EAW pilots I fly with to try this out......but with no padlock feature (not even an option for it in H2H) there's a lot of people who just wont fly.

ok, ok, I know.  No big discussions about padlocks being a crutch, etc.  All I'm sayin is there's people out there who wont even try AH cos it dont got a padlock.  If I could get em flying in H2H with a padlock maybe they'd get addicted enough.......

There are people out there who won't even try AH cos it don't have "powerups" and "healthkits".

Padlocks? yuck....one thing that Padlock that does do in flightsims and ive flown many that has them, is it completely wipes away your SA (situation awareness).

A note on sub base.  A friend of mine has 0 field captures, so I had a look at his score ranking.  I noticed checking some old names that people have to have a score (have played) to be in there.

At 0 field captures, his rank in that stat was 2029th.  What does that mean?

That means 2028 different people have captured a base at least once in Tour 3.  Certainly not all of those are paying accounts, but that gives you some idea.

On top of that, how many accounts have failed to capture a base or have not tried yet?  Hard to say, but it seemed as good as any other stat to use capture as a standard.

Swoop,

I've been trying to get the EAW guys from kali, at least jg26 and 56th FG to come to AH since august.  They just don't seem to like the idea.  Wklink plays here, but he used to fly WB too so he was already hooked.

I did see Savlan from the 56th in the arena last week.  Hopefuly that is the start of winning them over.  I realy think the EAW community would be a GREAT addition to our community here.  I think i'll go to kali tonight and start plugging again...

This is not being snide or making a personal attack but IMO alot of people hesitate to try something new because they are leery of he unknown, some don't like to 'start over' after they've spent time mastering and sometimes they leave behind friends when they move on.
After becoming proficient in what they currently enjoy many don't want to go through the 'dweeb' process again. For this is a public arena and many people don't like the shame of being a loser,  to another being a winner, in virtual aircombat. In other words, the shame factor.
It is my opinion that there will always be a group of folks who will never leave AW or WB's because in thier sim, well, they are good , damned good and to start over in another sim and lose the "King of the Heap" spot is more than they want change.

This game isnt getting much coverage as it deserves.

If a major computer magazine would include it in one of their magazine CD's or in a review, then more people will surely try it out.

Well the padlock debate is getting beat to death in every online sim NG and message board I have been to so far.

I come from FAII. Now before you laugh this is what brought me here. I played FA1.5 for months with no padlock. Kept dying alot. Learned padlock after many months ( contrary to many, it is difficult to use correctly ) and began killing much better. Still I fly FAII but wanted something more. I decided to try out some online sims, AWIII and now Aces High. Aces graphics and challenging flight model along with a more mission oriented community as impressed me.

FAII is still my home but mainly cause of price and my squad resides there. But I have been hyping AH in FAII arena's and NG for the last week. Also I can fly just fine with hat views instead of padlock. And I kinda like it more now too. Just like to keep an open mind and see what's out there. FAII was getting on my nerves with its freezes and bad frame rates. AH runs smooth as silk in 1024 16bit( have a voodoo card, no 32bit for me

I see some familiar FA nicks here, heh heh.
