"Plug-n-play valve substitution"
This means it's also a modeling amp as well as a tube amp..
There's some software called Amplitude that I've used that allows you to play through pretty much any amp and cab combination you could think of..
Pretty cool with how advanced all the amp modeling stuff is becoming..

Never cared much for Soldano amps. They always sounded hollow to me.  One of my favorite heads was the JCM800 50w. Played that for years before I went to a fully racked rig.

Friend of mine is an investor at a boutique amp company called http://www.65amps.com/  They have some really nice stuff.

For right out of the box tone/gain I think you'd have a hard time finding something to beat some of the Mesa Boogie or http://www.hughes-and-kettner.com/  rigs.  See a lot of people using Line6 these days but I can't offer an opinion on those as I haven't played with one.

Re the bass stuff... GK and Trace Elliot have dominated that market for decades.

I love H@K..  I have their Cream Machine micro-amp..  Awesome little unit..  Can be used as a pre-amp or a 1 watt...
BTW, I think lots of amp enthusiasts would disagree about the "hollowness" you speak of..  Maybe you heard it through a junky cab or something..
My Soldanos are anything but hollow, I assure you.... :D

Not really a fan of Line 6..  Their insides are a mess..  I owned a Spider Valve for a few weeks..  The modeling part was ok, but going through the tube power amp sounded horrible..

And as far as the JCM800  :rock :rock  Will always be an awesome amp....

If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.
