Don't have any employee's of any type that you can't trust or threaten with their life and carry out that threat.

Pay yourself a small salary and dump all extra income into the business.

PAY YOUR TAXES!

Be frugal!

Enjoy because this is the happiest I have ever been and I sweat bullets every month because I am hoping and praying that the dollars come in on time but I am still a happy man.

The Federal Govt. has free information for people starting small businesses.

Find a local tax advisor. One who is in business for himself may be the cheapest and most helpful.

A certified accountant may be expensive, but a very good option.

thinking about business plans is good, writing them down is better, and spending a week or 2 putting it all into a spreadsheet to give you a 5yr plan is the bare minimum you should do before you comit to anything at all.

when you do it be realistic with income and expenditure in your forecasts. and then halve your income and double your expenditure. will you still be making alot more in 5yrs time than you would working for someone else? almost everbody starts up wearing rose tinted specs, and ends up broke. be aware that you'll have less spare time, holidays etc and a whole bunch of stress so make sure its going to be worth it.

Whatever you do, don't make your business a partnership.  Bad things happen.
"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."
